All the talk of fast taxis has prompted me to come out of lurk mode.

There used to be a guy in Leamington Spa in Warwickshire who ran a black Evo 9 as a taxi.
I heard that he had to stop as it wasn't making him any money.

You're welcome. wink

Soon to be seen racing round a council estate near you!!
That is such a dumb ass view of the world rolleyes
Duh no its not! its a fairly accurate thats about right clearly you have never lived properly nor had the misfortune of living on or near a Chav estate have you?
Thank you! Its an ideal car for a TWOKER to take and go whizzing round in! Not such a dumb ass view, you short sighted chap..... PS are you a Suburu owner by chance?
Nope never owned a Suburu myself but have driven a couple lovely cars great traction and lots of fub but always found the interior very poor but hey you buy the car for the performance and not for the aesthetics biggrin. Used to live on a council estate and it could be guaranteed on Friday and Saturday late night that someone would be driving one up and down the estate with a death wish.

Really?
No of course it can't.

Nice car but I'd rather buy a standard Sti for half the cost and tune beyond this spec for a lot less or if it has to be factory standard a UK Evo X fq400 could be had for less than this, and is probably better in most respects.

Just wanted to hear him back it up.

Must say if I had £40k to spend on a car it wouldnt be going the way of this Impreza. I've always had a things for Jap cars though (loved my Honda V-Tec)and have always fancied a Mitsubishi Evo.....Tommi Makkinen edition of course :0)

Shame that the running costs would probably ruin me!

...are these actually any good? The evo's and subaru's we have encountered on track days are quick on the straights when on boost, but generally hopeless in the corners...

Compared to what?
They aren't really track cars, make much more sense on tricky roads.

Looks quite nice, love the colour, but too expensive imo. Theres better options to spunk 40k on, M3s, C63 etc etc. If I was going to spend it on a Subaru though, I'd buy the daddy of all Imprezas, the 22B

...see this is the thing, at 300bhp+, you really need to be on a track to exploit this, and they are not really suited to this...we run a e36 328 on kw variant 2 and it just seams to eat them up and it's far from the most sophisticated of machines.

Probably poor driving, a well driven evo or spec c impreza would absolutely rape an e36 in the corners.

thats a lot of money for a fast taxi ..
Again, what a stupid thing to say.
not at all, its a white goods car that will in many countries be uses as a mini cab, which just so happens to have very fast oily bits
So just like every other performance car other than sportscars and supercars. Great observation. Such a worthwhile post.

So, after a glut of porches including 993tt and 996tt and a z4m, I just bought an 08 wrx sti hatch with the Prodrive upgrade to 330 plus nicer back boxes and 330s alloys. At £13500 I think it was a steal and certainly a lot of car for the money.

I now totally get why Sccobies have such a fan base and the spread of cars over nearly 20 years means there is something for all pockets.

Great fun, all year round, capable and tunable.

The GTR is nice but now very expensive with running costs to match and the old 911\M3 argument is just boring. 911s are great but they cost fortunes to run properly. Fact. M3s drop money faster than my wife. Don't get me started on AMG/XKR depreciation!

The featured car is sweet, not for everyone at 40k for sure but a nice machine for sure. But for me, sensible STIs can be had for under 15k and for that kind of money, how can you knock them?

..... Could be poor driving, cannot comment about a spec c but we ran at an evo club meet at cadwell last month, a lot of evo's most models, some stock, most of them tuned...they would pull away on the straights but we caught it all back in the corners, they were all not being badly driven...Im not knocking them, but I just got the impression that they over complicate things, light weight, rear wheel drive, sensible bhp and a good suspension set-up and you've got them covered, without big bhp, 4 wheel drive, active yaw control etc etc

True theyre not meant as pure track cars but the track times speak for themselves and have proven that they can hang on road and track with much more exotic machinery. If that was an MLR event then there would been some well set up cars capable of really quick times - I'd be amazed if an e36 was catching all of them in the corners. Are you sure you weren't out during the beginners session? Not that I'm knocking you just that I think you're underestimating their abilities in the bends.

...no we were not catching them all, but I honesty thought we were in for a pasting when we turned up and saw row after row of evo's and we were the only BMW there...but on the track the old girl was far more competive than.a circa £4k 15 yrs old car should have been....just our observation

How do you get to that assumption?
Because of the badge and the way it looks I assume, anyone who buys a boggo 911 over a GTR...... actually he spent over 30K on golf so it is no surprise really that he has come to this assumption.

Tasty bit of kit this, the hatchback is finally looking OK to my eyes, I don't think I could ever own one though, I prefer the image of the Mitsubishi Evo, not sure why, am I alone in that? (Subaru boxer engine noise is better I admit)
