Unfair comparison time; if I were going to blow £40k on a car I wouldn't be driving every day, I'd be tempted by a very clean, low mileage 2009 Nissan GTR. Far cooler and more road presence.
Although I think that's the crux of it though. At this money it's not even a Focus RS alternative yet offers nothing extra bar AWD.

He mentioned the AWD 2000, basically the boggo uk spec car.

Of course the P1 was a lot more, limited build numbers, bloody quick yada yada yada.
Boggo UK WRX STi today is £33k, allowing for inflation & currency fluctuations, is 33k away off the mark. And, I'd presume that this R205 is closer to a P1 than a WRX Sti, if they can be compared?

And that's it, if you're going to spank £40k on a fast car, why bother with an Impreza? As you say you could have a V8 for this money, be it M3 or a fast Merc. Or a Porsche if you want more sporty.
Interesting comment! Anyone seriously looking to spend 40k on this car will be doing it for the very reason that they dont want a V8 or Porsche.

I have been a staunch JDM driver for a long old time now. Not so long ago as mentioned in the article, these specials had cult following, but with the increase in imports and decline in prices, the standard models of pretty much all brands fell into the price bracket of the chav or boy racer, whichever you want to call them, so I get the council estate comments, but it really doesnt or shouldnt apply to variants like this!

40k though is a hell of a lot of money when you could get an Fq400 for a lot less, which is more comparable than a V8 or Posrche wink

Sooooo,
Similar output figures to a WR1, which are available with 25k on the click for sub-£12k for the best.
Overpriced IMHO, and I love Imprezas, having only sold my WR1 a couple of months ago.

This would be significantly quicker than a Focus RS.

i'd have it!

this gen Impreza is really growing on me, the more i see them in the flesh the more i like them thumbup the saloon version more so!

saw a nice STI in silver with the prodrive pack (i assume as the alloys and rear badge said Prodrive) fitted, alloys were in the same dark grey as the Cosworth.

on the cosworth note, having seen the ones in the classifieds, they look rather bland and standard considering its suposed to be the UK's all singing all dancing Impreza scratchchin should have at least had a more bonkers front bumper/splitter combo!

I wonder how it compares to an RS3

Lots of cars would be at this price. I think we've established now that this car wouldn't make sense to a lot of us. But there are a handful of very particular JDM fans who wouldn't want anything else.

It's easy to say you would blow 40K on one, when in reality there is no chance of you ever being in that position (earnings, availibility, wife or otherwise) wink

A handful of people would buy one, sure. Which I guess is convenient seeing as there is only a handful around.

I love Subaru's, however, I think its all over for the STi and Evo now. At least in the UK.

Probably not much faster if at all but much more engaging.

My point was simply that this car does offer something over a Focus RS other than simply being AWD.
I wouldn't actually want one of these cars.
I would love a P1 or similar Type R classic. Possibly a late previous model Spec C.
At this kind of money I would be looking at a 911 or GT-R but, it is still an interesting option of a very high performance level in a very practical package.

The focus of the special editions from STI is not on all out power it's on handling, balance and braking which this car has in abundance.

(can't believe someone above just compared this to a WR1 which I had one years ago! and was very poor)

Having owned plenty of impreza's and Evo's including 9 gt's X rs's with 400bhp, R8,997 turbo and nissan GTR none offer the performance and buzz factor not to mention practicality this car does.!!

It can go around a track just as quick as a GTR cost's a fraction of the price for tyres servicing etc no brainer to be honest.

And for all those pathetic chav and drug dealer comments you'll find that they have all moved over to Audi's such as the S3 and RS4 etc. wink

List of parts over a standard STI

Suspension upgrades all uprated parts over the standard sti:

STI strut brace
Wishbones
trailing arms
Thicker Anti roll bars
additional bracing
rose joints
sti dampers
Sti springs

Brakes:
6 pot brembo's at the front
4 pot for the rear.

Wheels:

Aluminium lightweight wheels

All important 2.0l engine with 8k rpm limit (same spec engine used in group n rally cars)

Titanium Exhuast

I agree, a Porsche, Ferrari or Aston for me. Maybe an R8 in a years time. Just yesterday I saw a chap in a red F355 Spider giving it full throttle with the top town. The sound of that screaming engine on a sunny afternoon was blissful. I've never felt that way about a Focus RS or Impreza. All subjective of course.
