The only people that buy AMG or Brabus G class generally have more money than sense. By all means buy an original, but 100+ for one? Do me a favour.

It would have been nice to see some off-roading. When you've got a transfer case and full control of all three diff locks it seems a bit rude not to. I've also noticed that it seems when an SUV's off-road ability is compromised, but on-road ability is good, the general view is that it's a bit s t. And when an SUV's on-road ability is compromised but is very good off-road, it is also s t. Interesting. wackojacko said: Re badge as a diesel and go chav hunting Only chavs rebadge their cars.

Great vid. The owners will be like the car itself as intelligent a solution for humanity as that car is to personal transport. 40 year old design, engine borrowed from elsewhere, sound familiar. the 911. Take an inappropriate starting point, a military jeep or Hitler's peoples car and apply 40 years of no compromise, focused and fanatical German engineering and you end up with an SUV that clearly cannot be used off road and a peoples car that becomes a "sportscar". Brits love this idea, it is a German version of TVR, Bristol, Morgan, Caterham, German eccentricity.
That engine noise though, remarkable. Will sell well in Cheshire and London.

I'd love one to bits, but it has to be single figure fuel consumption, surely? No matter how rich you are, a range of 150 miles would be very frustrating.

Externally it hasn't change much from my Dads old 1982 280-GE but because of my fond love the for the G-Wagon it has been epic watching it evolve into the car it is today.
Without a shadow of a doubt, if I had a large windfall of cash come my way it would be the first car I bought before any Ferrari, Lamborghini or Porsche.

If I won the Lottery that'd be the last thing I'd buy. Butt-ugly and completely pointless. Don't like.

And how has this car had '40 years of no comprimise, focused and fanatical German engineering' put into it? It's an ancient design with a posh interior and a ridiculous engine. I like that we live in a world where this car is made, even if it doesn't fill me with desire.

I like the G, I really do. When I was a youngster at the Merc showroom I was asked to tow a 300E to the Midlands behind a 3.0 petrol LWB. I'd never towed before and was worried, but convinced the DP to lend me the solo G for a few nights so I could 'get used to it' before towing. It was ace, and my love went from there. If I was buying one though I'd take an earlier 500. The new dash looks better but (to me) loses a lot of that feeling of solidity you want in a G. You want a tank, not an S-Class. You also lose the slightly-fussy exterior detail with an earlier car. Something like this would do me just fine: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3510691.htmDon't hate the G because of the current image. They really are excellent fun.

That's just mental, the G65 is even so more mental.
