This is possibly the worst SOTW I have ever seen. If you follow the "other cars at this price" bit at the bottom it offered an E plate MG Metro I'd buy that over this Porsche accident waiting to happen and that is saying something.

My mate wants me to track slag my SD1, and we would start by stripping the interior and fitting some seats, but we would do the brakes and suspension as well because you would be stupid not to, this would be on a budget but probably a grand even on that basis, but I'd save money by not buying it any stickers to advertise suspension and brakes, and then save up for cage and a few mods.

No Cage....... I've always gone with benefits of a already conveted to track car was you cut down on some of the big expenditure - cage would be one.

Having said that it's a 2 dr coupe with a hatch and so I kinda like that (just got the wrong badge)
...do you think it would need a cage? Not too much performance on offer, i cannot decide if i need one on my MX-5 and half a dozen track days in the old 'ead in still on the shoulders...
Depends if you think you are so good that you'll never stick on it's roof or not..........

I really hope I never ever test the cage in my car and it remains an expensive piece of scaffolding, but I'm still glad I have one!
Tested mine in February :-( see post on self flagilation - Opel Monza - I'm very sure it wouldn't have been on track last night without it......

And a rear engined Porsche on a track is even better smile

150 horses? nono All 2.5 na's were churning out 163 horses from the factory (165 for the later 2.7)

Porsche facts matter nerd

As to the above, I'm oooot.
How many of those 150/163/165 horses will have escaped in the last 28 years though?
This is the sort of rubbish I get bored of.

More stupid uses of Top Gear'isms. So based on the results of three knackered supercars everyone now thinks that all engines must lose loads of power over their life. This simply isn't true and I've tested engines with 200,000 miles on them that come within 1hp of a factory figure on two different rolling roads.
1. Calm down, I missed the smiley off but I wasn't being entirely serious, and yes I know its a Top Gear-ism.

2. The key word here is knackered, I'd say that 944 was just about as knackered as anything Jeremy & Co bought for their money.

As for the shed itself, I wouldn't touch it with my or anybody elses barge pole.

So many nay sayers. I'm so glad I have never listened to any of the rust bucket, money pit, disintegrating sill harbingers who discourage purchasing a car that was considered by many at one point to be the best handling car in the world. Put some decent shocks on it, a set of toyos, and you're away. Great fun on the limit, nothing complicated in them so easy to work on, and a replacement engine costs 200 quid on eBay if the worst does happen. The only real money spent has been down to my rubbish driving and off piste excursions...

This does look crap in white, though...

Nobody's bashing the idea of a 944 - I've had two. It's just the advert gives the overriding impression of one that's a heap.

I think some say that, and some are just taking an easy swipe at an old car like they do on all SOTWs. They're all a BIT crap - that's why they're a grand! smile)

Bought my 924S for £460. Now has new shocks and the correct battery that allows the bonnet to close properly.

Yes, but this one is proper crap! Ive bought far better 944s & 924Ss for half of the price touted for this PoS. Its an end of life car with the carpets taken out, being called a 'track car'.

The thought of that on track near me makes me shudder...

A set of tyres and a suspension refresh is going to cost more than the car, change anything on a 944 and you will most likely need a 4 wheel alignment, not everyone can swap an engine over and £200 becomes a lot more very quickly.

Good car and set up right they are as you say fantastic but this doesnt seem the candidate to lavish money on.

that car is garbage for a grand, doubt it would last more than 5 laps round tesco's let alone a race track..

if it was £300 might be worth a punt as you could take on a track day, kick its arse and sell it for scrap..

£1000? must be mad!

This looks a bit of a dog TBH. Mine will be up for sale shortly. Mine has had the sills rebuilt inners & out. The sunroof works etc. It also comes with spare bonnet, doors, badge panel, front PU. New 968 Castor bushes & a box of other misc. parts. It is on S2 brakes & legs & comes with a spare set of s2 brakes. Depending on what it sells for I'll chuck in a complete belt, seals & top hat kit which is £300!
Good "ad-jacking"!!!! wink

How much will you want for it?

I believe that it is the faux 'preparation' thats winding people up. If it was a tatty old series one 944 for sale, not represented as something that it clearly wasnt, then I wouldnt have commented.

I just bought a shed Porsche 944 on ebay last night (bought without viewing of course!) - How weird that the 944 is this weeks SOTW!

So, here is my new fix'er - up'er , all £500 of it. With a few months tax and 9 months MOT, BUT it's a non-runner! It was running and for sale on ebay & gumtree for £2000, but apparently the seller tried to start it the other night and it wouldn't start. Seller amended the advert to £500 and I thought, "Hmmmm, it's worth a go!" (after a few beers) rolleyes

So am I stupid/brave ? - Will find out soon as I'm going to tow it home later (only 5 miles down the road - the location kinda sold it to me too!) I'll let you know how I get on. Fingers crossed!

If it isnt the DME relay, then its likely to be the fuel pressure regulator (assuming it isnt the ignition leads, fuel filter etc), or possibly the crank sensor. Theyre the regular candidates. Even a 1987 engine replacement will only cost £250 if you can do it yourself...
