I really fancy a 182 but insurance quotes are coming back nearly double to what I was paying on a type r.
Quite strange this- the Clio is a lower insurance group for a start. A CTR works out about £100/year more for me.I get quite bored of cars- they normally last a year tops. I'm approaching that in my 182, but I'm struggling to find a replacement that offers similar MPG/performance/initial cost and most importantly smiles per mile as the little clio.
Things like the Leon are not quite raw/fun enough, but then I need the practicality of a hatchback(kayaks and mountain bikes) which rules out open tops. A CTR would cost too much over the miles I do(losing 8-10mpg).
Very nice - do miss my trophy, every time I see it for sale again its gone up in value. The guy I bought it off paid 6.5k, I paid 7k kept it 1.5 years, sold it for 7k and now -> http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3904325.htm

I no the reason I looked at them was because I thought that they would of been cheaper on the insurance. My renewal on the civic was £850 but the cheapest for the Clio was £1600. Nurburgsingh said:
What is that backing track - not the ice ice baby bit? Vaguely recall just can't quite remember ...TX.

Had mine for over 6 years now. I think I'd have probably changed it had my situation been a bit different, but only for something faster and without a roof. I'm still happy to own it to this day.
In some photos that looks like a trophy and in others it looks like a bean. The trophy seats confuse me!ambuletz said:
Is the focus ST170 a good alternative?
Nah, would not really say so. I found the ST170 very bland, lacked power, but a decent chassis! However it don't come close to the 182 in my opinion.182 is a fantastic handling car. I had one for a short spell, 3 months to be exact, as i got pig sick of the build quality, so opted to go back to an EP3. EP3 is the better car all round, by a country mile, but for Fun on Track the 182 just does it that bit better than an EP3. The grip levels from the 182 are something else. I had the cup pack on mine with the PS2 tyres.
Only thing that wastes it is build quality is fairly poor. If you can live with that, then these are great wee cars for the money. However EP3 is in the same price Range, and due to the age of both of them, the EP3 would be a safer bet!!!

I purchased an early ph2 172 last Saturday!! its black and has the badges painted yellow, needs a little cosmetic tidying up, which is getting sorted, but by god does it shift. and because of a full stainless exhaust it sounds meaty.
also regarding the SERV light, doesn't that also illuminate when the car is due a service and needs turning off via a diagnostic machine? Actually I have a question about mine, had a new clutch fitted, and now snags going into 3rd 4th and 5th, any way to adjust it?

A mate of mine recently bought an EP3 Type R over the Clio for the very same reason. I must admit I found the EP3 to be very impressive, especially for the money. His is a 53 plate with the rare full leather, think he paid around the £3.5k for it.
Honda Certainly got it right with the EP3, it really is a class act, hence why i had two. However if you like the EP3, go and try a DC5. Similar to the EP3 but better!! However what your picking up EP3s for at the moment, cannot be sniffed at. DC5s still relatively expensive comparing!!VR46 said:
The only clio I would consider is the v6. Having driven them I found them very tinny, rattled like crazy and unreliable. There's a reason they're cheap-it's because they are built on a shoe string budget and cheap parts.
Give me a hot ford or vw anyday.
So they're built to a budget, what's the problem? The retail price reflects that as you say - no problems there. They offer cheaper and faster motoring than rivals which makes them better in my opinion.Give me a hot ford or vw anyday.
