I had no choice. Mine is from the amber period, but it's got litronics, so I've got (mainly) clear lenses.
They look better too IMHO. Personally I'd opt for clear lights on dark cars and amber on light; they look great on the silver car in the article.

I don't even care that its done over 90,000 miles, I'd still have it for that price, I would change the color though, silver is just a bit boring for my liking.

There are also smoked lenses from Porsche too right?

I personally prefer amber lights on pre 90's cars.

Had my 3.2 s for almost a year and its the best fun car ive owned, plenty of performance and great handling.
I paid just over £7K for mine just make sure its got the necessary service history espacially if its an s as the brakes/clutch etc are more expensive.
Rms isnt really an issue as most get replaced on a clutch change.
As for Ims bearing problems ,the cars are pretty old now if they were to fail they would of done so by now just steer clear of very low mileage garage queens.
Here is mine, wheels are now black with silver lip smile

you also can give your Boxster a face lift with this sort 997 front end conversion biggrin it cost the price of the boxter though...

http://www.cars.engisoft.net/EBMS/Catalog/ProductV...

you also can buy special hardtop's that give the boxter the Cayman look...but also expensive.

This alone is a (small) reason to move to the UK.. On the European mainland you pay upwards of €7k for one of these and then they're in crappy condition with mind-boggling insurance slapped onto it.. How much would insurance be for one of these for a 23-year old?

Shame you'll always look a bit of tit driving it, shame they didn't have the Cayman back then!

Really nice looking car. Always like the side graphics on the light coloured cars.

For some reason I don't mind tastefully modified Porsches.

Although this is a 987 and I'm not into the black wheel look or the stickers, they do seem to be a little more special than a Z4 or S2000.

Plus you can get some RUF bits too =)

Give me a s2000 anytime over a asthmatic poser machine. I want to know why s2000s haven't reached 3k yet

A great car indeed, however I can't believe the amount of people niggling over the spec etc? £33K car new for just over £3K. There's simply no satisfying some people.

Give me a decent ride and amazing feedback over a badly resolved chassis that can't cope with it's engine. S2k's really aren't very good wink

This thread (S2000 vs Boxster vs Z3) is taking me back! Great memories too - 1998 Boxster was one of the best cars I owned (had many!) and still the longest one I've ever kept! Great chassis, nice exhaust note and excellent reliability......

Mine was the 2.5 and I loved every minute of ownership (apart from a small issue with an electric garage door!)

Only downers were the crap stereo (didn't have the sound pack so just dashboard speakers) and came with the factory fit Sony CD/Minidisc...... And that it wasn't a Boxster S! However the latter would have made for a very different ownership experience, and who knows if it would have been so favourable after all, for whatever reasons.

Agreed. The 2.5 Boxster just doesn't have the performance.

All water cooled porsche values are in free fall (4.0 RS aside). I had to raise an eyebrow when I noticed a 996 GT3 parked on a council estate a couple of months ago. It has been there every single day as I pass by, so it is not a visitor either.

But it has the handling, the sound, and isn't a Honda. Horses for courses...

This is the part I understand! Seriously considering a 3.2 after reading this article.

Fair enough. Maybe the RS variants will be safer.

Still, a red mk1 GT3 does look a touch sorry for itself parked in a scruffy council street.
