Like a few, the latest news of anything relating to these monsters of days gone by is great to hear and watch... great Video. Getting up at 3 in the morning to go and stand in a forest/park waiting for these Automotive giants to fly past was something else.

I know tyre choice has always been an issue with these cars so it's good to hear that steps are being taken to keep the cars on the road.

Has to be the Stratos for me... stands out in looks and (that) noise. The closest i'll get is one of these... 15" or the new 17" alloys for the sensible 'shoe' option.

Have you ever driven an Ypsilon? It's almost deliberately bad. Switchgear and gearbox from a Doblo van. They have not a single redeeming feature that I can think of.
That seems to be the theme with them nowadays. Just like taking a 300C or a Sebring and actually photoshopping a Lancia badge on them for advertising is deliberately and shockingly unprofessional. I think in one of their press releases they actually suggest they aim at BMW sales with those...Sigh.

Brilliant, just brilliant.....

Proper cars. As someone mentioned Rally Legend is the place to go to see this stuff in action. I would love to take the integrale on a road trip to this.

For those of you wanting to spot the ECV and and 131 on the move watch this video put together by a friend in 2010...

Another awesome video, i could watch these legendary cars/drivers all day. The sound of the stratos is fantastic, i always thought these were supposed to be very difficult to drive, but he made it look so easy.

Cars of this era were just so much more exciting. Keep them coming, so much better than Top Gear.

Brilliant as ever. My favourite era of my favourite sport. I once got driven by Francois Delecour around Donington in an Escort Cosworth road car. Wonderful, but not a Gp B monster.
Was that the damp RS Owners Club National meeting there around 91 or 92?

I was there and remember the queue's for the ride with FD, and can remember him chucking the things sideways waaaaaaaaaaaaaay before the right/left at the end of Starkey's laugh

Loved that video......the Stratos is just cloud9

Juha's a top bloke, met him during the '92 RAC.

Does anyone know what the sound is from the 22B when it comes off throttle? I thought it was a BOV, and was hoping to buy the same brand, except I was told it wasnt the BOV. Is it a particular type of wastegate setup?

Regardless of what it is, could someone please point me in the direction of it, as I'd like to read some more on it, and see if I can get it put into my own 22B. I just love the sound.

Sounds to me like the turbo stalling when the throttle is closed (no BOV in the WRC car due to anti-lag?). If you removed the BOV in your Subaru you would get the same effect, but with a much shorter turbo life and increased lag.

You're hearing anti-lag.

Not really for road cars for a number of reasons, and definitely not cheap!

The back firing is the anti-lag the other noise is turbo flutter.

Love it. Love it, love it, love it. Just so evocative. Puts me so close to what it feels like to be in each car - with such distinct driving characteristics - that I just want to have a go.

Yes, what we called chirping.... with up to 3bar available off throttle it has to go somewhere, sometimes back through the impeller into the airbox.

Looking at the video again, the journo should invest in a gopro, that ugly setup on the windscreen will kill someone in a crash!

Takes me back to the good old days of Rallying, when we had the proper "Lombard RAC Rally "in the UK.

The noise of those cars if the forests, is something I shall never forget, and even now makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Mr Harris you are a very very luck man indeed!!

The video is excellent too!!

Thanks!
