Nobody's arguing that bikes are slow. As mentioned earlier the brit guy who recently set the Nurburgring bike record had a time on par with a GT2 RS - a fast car by any measure. Fast bikes are faster than the majority of stuff that wears number plates. However, it's a race lap, when talking about ultimate pace it makes sense to talk about race machinery.
yep the karts would destroy cars and bikes. I agree.DSE said:
For the record - I really hope that a car (that everyone is happy with on here) takes the course on and sets a mega lap in the near future.
It won't happen. The IOM authorities are not interested in the idea. It took Subaru a while (and a lot of sponsorship of the TT week + circuit cars etc) before they were allowed a go.The couple of times I've written letters to the appropriate people I've had a "thanks but no thanks" back.
I guess TT week is enough and they don't want to turn it in to another Nurburgring.

btw It is a Fortnight..also The ManxGP, that is a Fortnight too.
It is, but it's referred to as "TT week". ITV4 coverage refers to it as that as do the locals. Peter Duke (Geoff's son) certainly did when I ran him in Britcar a couple of years ago. you Learn something new everyday

O/T to anyone remotely into bikes, LS is THE best place to see bike racing. The yanks really do know how to put on a race event: The manufacturer displays on their own were a match for the NEC bike show. Then add in the custom groups displaying and the historic race cars, and trucks, etc. Best MGP I've ever been to as well as one of the cheapest.
Sorry guys but i was at this years TT for practice week and race week and thought the whole Subaru demonstration, free laps for celebs thingy was pointless and dull !
Our group which included petrolheads of various interests on both 2 and 4 wheels were left underwhelmed at least.
Saw them leap over Ballaugh bridge (sort of)and the only comment that was offered from our group between yawns was "pity the poor sod that buys these ex demos" after hearing the crunch of front splitter and undertray on the tarmac.
Would have loved to see more clasic bike demo laps, and was also dissapointed with the new Norton, which was essentially a v4 Aprilia bolted to the old rotary chassis complete with Aprilia RS125 tail piece...But thats another story.
However was quite impressed with last years Subaru lap and was interested with the relative lap times car versus bike, and especially the later released youtube footage of lock to lock car control from Bray Hill to Ago,s Leap.
Lets keep the TT for 2 wheels.

Not in the interests of the event - the bike record would fall to a car like it has at every other circuit where both have run and the mythology of the TT in the minds of fans would be eroded. The existence of this thread every year is testament how much many people don't want it to be true and would be upset by having their noses rubbed in it.otolith said:

biggest load of ste I have ever read. good work. bikes are not an equivalent to cars, they are fundamentally very different and give totally different experiences.it could be that a car flying through someones front wall and into their house might be an issue for the local residents. the bikes do enough damage when they crash.
otolith said:
And pogo sticks are different too. So what?
they dont go to the event because bikes are the quickest, it has nothing to do with it. they go because they are into bikes and fans of the riders who do the event. Also, its fairly unique in that you can sit 2 meters away from bikes passing at 200+ mph.
otolith said:
And you don't think they are emotionally invested in the mythology that the IOM is special for bikes?
no. just like people still go to motogp, bsb, etc even though f1 cars, etc are alot quicker.try going to the event and seeing for yourself. if people like Mark Webber appreciate what these guys do and appreciate the entertainment value of it, you must be wrong. lap times arent the point.
