£25k and it will be a 2003/4, you could buy a M3 convertible (E46)and a decent b5 RS4 avant for that,

Always fancied a B5 RS4! Currently got a C5 A6 2.7T Avant, and the engine is very impressive, even with just 230bhp to play with. It's currently up for sale though: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3954677.htmAs i'm doing too many miles now to make it cost effective to run, although it's currently returning 26-27mpg which isn't bad for car weighing the best part of 1.8 tonnes!!! It would be a tough call between a B5 RS4 or an 80 RS2??????

As much as I love Audi's, that really doesn't appeal to me especially at that price.

That B5 you have is a really nice looking car in your pics, did it belong to that <insert any word you like> JayKay too ?

I've had mine for a year now. Avus Silver, second owner from new and 110k miles.
Just a remap to 427PS - it's such a simple mod, why wouldn't you? On boost, the acceleration is so addictive! AFAIK, something similar was available as an option from quattro GMBH on original customer orders. A great owner community out there too through SRSAudi and RS246.
I'm told that a sturdier rear ARB and a more performance-focussed spring/damper setup works wonders on the handling but tbh, with the weight, these cars feel like muscle cars to me - just bags and bags of torque - built for the 'bahn methinks.
I can't ever imagine paying that money, especially in green, but good luck - hopefully the odd car like this would make mine look more affordable if I ever come to sell it!

I had one for a year and it was the very definition of a money pit. Engine pull and two turbos was just the start. Great cars but almost all are getting seriously leggy so buyer beware. Still had a tear in my eye when it drove off mind.

I love these B5 RS4 Avants - one of my all-time favourite Audi RS models.
And they still hold their value pretty well!

Quality car but a money pit. There is a common cam wear problem that can cost big money and make sure if you buy one that the came inspection has been done. Change the suspension for bilsteins and add Arabs to stiffen things up. Take the car to Doug up at MRC for a custom remap and it is how the car should have left the production line.
I enjoyed mine for three years and would have another sorted one tomorrow.

Tbh, prices are all over the place; a friend of a friend recently picked up a veeeery nice lowish miles example for under £9k iirc. But a guy just round the corner put his on Fleabay but failed to reach reserve (highest bid was under £9k iirc?) now on here for £11k. The 'bay is not the place to sell 'em, better off on RS246 forum or here. As an aside, there's another near Matlock with the RS4 badging replaced by '1.9 TDi' badges; now that's what I call fun, reminding me of a 5yr old 3dr Cosworth I had - it was at the time there were lots of replicas being made - and in which I toll off the Cisworth badges and replaced them with 1.6L.........

After all the work I went for a stage 1 remap too and the car felt totally transformed! If I was looking to buy an RS4 B5 then I'd be looking for an MRC stamp in the service history

I think Jay Kay owned the B5 RS4 and then sold it for a Purple (special order) RS6.

I absolutely love the proposition of the B5 RS4: wide arches, big turbo power, 4WD, not too large, practicality and space for the family. There's one a few streets away from me that looks totally battered in comparison to the Bramley one featured here and reminds us that the RS4 is also available in "Shed" trim (if not price).
Unfortunately, I haven't felt able to take a punt on an 11+ year old car as our sole means of family transport - hence I find myself in an 8P S3 Sportback. The B7 RS4 could just fit the bill, but again I'd need to be feeling brave if I took the plunge.

Some talk here about money pits. I've had mine for over 5 years, done 65k miles in it (now 115k) and outwith wear and tear brakes etc, I've replaced 2 Lambda Sensors - that's it!! Had the cams checked - no problems, and still on original Turbos.
I can't help thinking that those that are presenting problems, have perhaps been on long life servicing when they were newer and/or not been treated accordingly (not letting turbos cool down properly etc)during it's life. (I've never got how Audi deduced that 20,000 miles without an oil change was a good idea)
Mine has been probably the most reliable car I've ever owned and I know a couple of others that have been equally reliable. I also think good ones will climb in value in the future.
Mine has had a MRC Custom Remap and a Miltek cat-back, so hasn't had anything major. Maybe that's a factor also.
Good ones can be had for £10k+, which I find astonishing for a limited edition car (with even just a remap) kicks out over 420+. Practical too.
I won't be selling mine anytime soon! I love it.
