I don't believe that has to be declared.
However I was assured the car was off to be scrapped, the insurance comapny wnated £1000 for it without repairs, so now it could be a real bargain.

Most of the damage was cosmetic and the photos look to show a good repair. The car was never in great condition, it always was a shed, but knowing it's history, even I'm tempted at that price!

I spent about £3k on it in the 2 years I ran it, fixing little things, doing major jobs like suspension arms etc. I was gutted when it was written off.

If anyone does chance their arm on her, feel free to get in touch, I may be able to help.
I even more tempted now than I was.

Of course its a bit sheddy, is under a grand ffs! This is most definitely not a car to restore to factory condition, but for a drive until it breaks, park it anywhere without a care commuter/dog taxi/tip run car, what more could one ask for!?

I know full-well the Ted is an Audi driver. I also know that there are plenty Audi drivers who are perfectly nice people, and there are many Audis that are also perfectly PH-worthy cars - both new and old.

I was merely expressing the fact that Audis have developed a reputation as being driven by eejuts, much in the same way that BMW drivers had that rep back in the 80s and 90s.

Whether it's Clarkson-disseminated nonsense or not is really not the point - it's a perception that's out there. And you'll note that I didn't actually say whether it was true or not... so I don't think you can say I'm spreading it, more commenting on a pre-existing perception, surely? smile

I had the allroad version of this car - I would be very careful of the 2.7t even with a manual box.

There are a lot of potential problems and some of them are very expensive to sort out.

I do so hate the usual Top gear stereotyping. Particularly as an Alfa driver.

However, in my experience as someone who does a lot of business mileage, Audi drivers frequently ARE cocks.

Someone accelerating at your rear bumper on the motorway at 1,000 mph with Xenons ablaze in broad daylight? Audi.

Someone cutting across three lanes of traffic to exit the motorway at the last possible second? Audi (usually Q5/ Q7).

Someone riding your ass in the 50mph average speed check zone when you have the cruise control on at 55mph? Audi.

Looks like a regular A6 really from that period. Put 1.9tdi badge on the back and you could have a laugh watching so called hot hatches trying to pass you and getting really confused as you pull away into the distance. laugh

I'm sure you're right, however, I get annoyed when it's ONLY Audi drivers that get brought up when refering to these driving tactics. I also do lots of miles (100 a day to and from work - lots of m/way too) and I see huge amounts of this kind of driving from loads of other marques too. IMHO, mostly large 4x4 Chelsea tractors and mostly Range Rover Sports and X5's.

I can't see why everyone (edit: everyone on PH with a dislike of Audi's) only notices people in Audi's doing it!

Not sure legally, i thought you had to declare that the car was previously a catc/d write off if you knew!!

Also the new owners will need to know this to advise their insurers as a lot of insurers are now refusing to reinsure written off cars, opens up a big ca off worms if the new owners has an accident with an insurer swho refuses to insure cat c/d cars!!

Worryingly a lot of Audi drivers seem to have transitioned to Range Rovers, which are even more fun when trying to park in your boot at 80 mph.

£1K for a tuned turbo multicylinder German car that's been written off and is being sold as the owner 'needs cash fast' - definition of shed. Will die an expensive death after 1000 miles or run forever, just with more and more blue smoke.

Kudos to whoever buys it!

The 2.7 Bi-Turbos are not that quick - a bit gutless when compared to more modern cars. The ride quality of the Allroads is amazing though (air suspension).... fantastic long range wafters (if you can stomach 25-27mpg on a fairly relaxed run). Just need to keep your fingers crossed that the air stays in each corner wink

I had one of these from new for 10 years and 100k miles. An auto tiptronic though. Great solid car. Only thing that ever went wrong was an Air Mass meter at a cost of about £200.

Mine was chipped as well. Basically just turning up the Turbo boost so it kicked out the same as the S4 of the time at about 290 hp. The down side of this was that the Auto box started to get a bit confused occassionaly but it was easy to drive around with carefully throttle management. Wasn't worth the £500 to have the auto management chip upgraded as well

Suspension is quite soft for such a rapid car and it can get a bit wobbly on the extremes so it's no sports car despite the spec. 4WD useful in the winter. A bit thirsty by todays standards

Top motor and at the time the perfect family wagon. Space, grace, pace. Hence why I kept it so long.

Agreed! But, if it's still running 320bhp, that should make a considerable difference.

Tempting. The fact that it's Cat C and has been modified gives some potential to chip the price down even further too. Is the insurance on these things horrific?

BMW 1 Series for me. Odds on if something approaches too fast on a dual carrigeway and then pulls accross at the last second to overtake on the left as you slow for an island - it's a 1-Series.

And the brakes still needed some TLC as I could never find the air that seemed to be in the system. Stand hard on the brake pedal before you drive offf int he morning and all will be well, otherwise, the pedal needs a VERY firm right leg to bring her to a halt, as I discovered.
Great shed, provided the repairs are decent.
As for the brakes did you bleed the master cylinder? Also you can cycle the ABS pump with VAG-COM, even the local Audi dealership couldn't bleed my A3's brakes.
