Agree with the plus 6bhp comment it looks evil enough to handle it.
Happy to evaluate for 6 months on behalf of AMG, as long as they have a few sets of extra tyres to go with it.
It could be laughable in damp Britannia through the first few gears with a heavy foot... For a lack of forward progress.

Be honest, if you were in the market for a £200k (ish) car to drive on the limit, would you pick the Merc? To be honest, no, never. But there's no £200k (ish) car I'd pick. (there's about 10 other cars/bikes I'd get with that money though ) I get your point about the horsepower and it having trouble to cope with it, but it's madness is appealing to me. The big power & noise give it a lot of character, and I enjoyed the C63 a lot more than the M3 I've driven for that reason. Take the MX5, it's ok with it's standard 136 hp (Belgium), and you can push it beyond it's comfort when trying, but I've driven one that was dyno'd over 160 hp and that was a hoot to drive, because it had more horsepower than it can handle. In short, as long as delivery is reasonable and linear (no huge turbo surge), I don't any problem with over-powered cars. I agree with you on car choice, & the better way to spend £200k But as for the MX5, you don't think it could cope well with 160bhp?

It wasn't raining, but damp, and the thing would be all over the place if you place your foot down (still 500bhp down on the SLS Black though ). Despite that it wasn't a nightmare to handle, very predictable and linear power. It was miles better than the standard car imho, as in the straight line or smooth curves the power was there...

mrclav said: Name me one new car on sale today that doesn't have airbags? Last time I checked they were mandatory for a car of this type. Not to mention the fact that even if they weren't and this car wasn't sold with any then some-one got in an accident, a mother of a lawsuit would be waiting for Merc... And do you think think for one second that some-one in the market for a car like this would buy one with no airbags over a rival maker's car that did?
Always thought its was nonsense about replacing electric windows with the manual kind. Surely on cars of this price they could buy lighter motors... Or more powerful smaller motors.

How do we know they didn't? Anybody has the exact weight of the motors in the SLS and -let's say- a basic C-class?

The motors are so light anyway, that I'm sure there are many other places that they can save more weight for a given amount of investment.

Im just glad that in the modern economic and anti-car climate companies like MB still make cars like this. Good on them I say.

In the REAL WORLD that's all you'll ever need. There are too many Walter Mittys on here who are dreamers and believe that the overpowered overpriced cars are what is needed. I bet that most of the people who post on this site have never been in a powerful car, but dream about it and post accordingly.

No doubt the SLS is a great car. It seems to me however all the leading manufacturer are churning out performance cars for every class of car, and then, making variations of those cars. Not that I am complaining, I think it's great that they are making performance cars for all audiences. But I do think they should spend more time making the original better, rather than releasing revisions with a very slightly different badge so frequently.
Might just be me.
Examples:
SLS AMG > SLS GT > SLS BLACK M3 > M3 EVO > M3 CS > M3CSL > The recent blue coloured on I can't remember the name of Audi have an 'S' and 'RS' in most of their series' but on the whole there aren't too many variations to my knowledge.
Anyway, just an observation really.

Always this same argument, tell me, are all your road cars limited to 90mph? No? Some of them hit 100mph? Why on earth is that? Of course no one NEEDS a 660bhp SLS AMG Black, I don't recall anybody stating that, that would be absurd.

there really is no need to call people names, you state in your profile we are all entitled to our opinion, so live by it. thewheelman said: How did you come up with that?, I can only assume you're an idiot.
Guessing you've never driven an AMG Black series Merc?
Great engine, but the handling is questionable.
