As mad 1 off Volvos go, I think I prefer the one owned by actor Paul Newman smile

Just making sure you were all aware you can actually go to Volvo and buy a 4WD S60 with a 300bhp Turbocharged I6 for £40K. Doesn't look too different from this concept, quite a decent Q car actually...

yes
It is a peach of an engine, even in stock form.

+1.

We are all here out of love of cars, it isn't 'whatcar', or 'mumsnet', FFS.

Any mad, bad, pointless 500hp saloons should be applauded, not written off as 'not-as-good-as-an-M3-is'. Pffft.

I've had five BMW M-cars, an Audi RS and a handful of Porsches. If they actually built one of these (for a competitive price), I'd buy it in an instant.

And if they made one in an estate bounce

This is absolutely brilliant. It sounds exactly like what the other manufacturers need, someone to come in and provide a more raw ("old school" if you like) alternative to hopefully remind them of their roots. This is what the top level performance saloons should be, taking a everyday built for cruising saloon and changing it's DNA. Not putting a bigger engine in it and calling it a proper performance saloon. You could argue the case for the GTR M3 and Black series, but they are TOO extreme in performance, TOO uncomprimising, detracting too much from everyday use.

IDK, it just seems as though Polestar have got the balance right here, and gone about it in the proper way (uprate suspension, INCREASE DRIVER PARTICIPATION, lighten weight, add CHARACTER). That's a big thing for me actually, that colour, and especially that power delivery gives it CLEARLY different character to the standard models. That slight detraction from refinement is gonna be irritating every now and then, but for the most part I would be giggling like a school boy every time it hit boost.

Perfect smooth power delivery, 400 way adjustable suspension, and some big wheels might make a car fast, but by no means interesting.

All IMO.

Batst mental, 4wd, tubo-charged straight 6, 500bhp+. This is normally the kind of Volve that appears at the Gatebil events. I want it.

I really hope they decide to build this Volvo.

BMW,Mercedes and Audi are all good cars but their ride quality IMO is poor.

With Saab gone more people will be looking at Volvo and this could tempt other drivers too.

£300,000 is just daft tho frown

Seems reasonable for a one-off/prototype.

I think it looks ace, and to echo others in here would defintely consider one if the price (for a similarish production version) was competitive.

So if you get the T6 from Volvo along with the Polestar remap upgrade, could you not just buy the suspension, exhaust and air filter gubbins directly from Polestar just to complete the package?

Also for $300,000, I'd want carbon fiber body panels.

This looks excellent, love the colour and loved the previous C30 car.

I was shocked to see that 300k even in dollars was quoted as costs....you can nearly buy a new BTCC car for that!!

As for it being competition for the M3/RS/C63 AMG not sure, it all depends on costs...can they really make the car as a production model for 55-60K? with a 3 year warranty? and make it look and go as well, i doubt it, shame, be good to see it, in the majority i also doubt many would trade an AMG/M3/RS and add further funds for a volvo.

but well done polestar, great product, fast, desirable, but makes even the m3 GTS look cheap!!

Andy.

Also - I consider "Polestar" to be a significantly cooler name than "AMG" or "M".
Somehow it reminds me of a cheap vodka-based alcopop.
AMG is funny when the Germans pronounce it "ah emm gey" lol

I love it, I like the fact it sounds like a bit of an animal, rather than try and tackle the Germans in the sophistication stakes, it appears as though in giving it a whacking great turbo set up, they've made it into a real hooligan.

I'm going to sound like the sort of nerd i hate, but the 'chirping' noise isn't anything to do with the wastegate - but instead compressor stall i.e. the air coming back out the turbine blades when off/part throttle. I'd imagine the volvo's turbo setup would be internally gated anyways.

I'll try not to let the door hit me on the way out... wobble

Utterly brilliant, when i get that 'big win' on t'lottery thats where my wedge would go! I'd want deep red leather upholstery accented with mahoganny to contrast the nutcase exterior with cigar lounge interior.
