It's bit fussy-looking, but then, if they smoothed it out it'd look pretty much like a DB9.
I've a suspicion this new 570bhp isn't going to look too impressive next to the 660bhp SLS Black and 730bhp Ferrari F12. It would have been right on the money if they'd launched it about 18 months ago, but as usual Aston's playing catchup.

Ought to add that the interior is lovely, and reading CAR's article this morning, it seems you can have the front splitter painted to match the rest, which should hide it a bit.

Your F12 is significantly more expensive. £50k is a lot more car so spend that on the new AM to match it up and it won't be that far off.

SLS Black is expected to cost around £325,000 and the F12 more than £250,000, the £190,000 Vanquish isn't really a direct competitor.

If you're spending £200k on a car, it's unlikely your reason for buying the Aston is because it saved you a few quid. The Aston will be judged against its peers, and needs to stack up.

Personally I think Aston are trying too hard to 'milk the same cow'. No doubt far cheaper than a completely new car but the design asks for elegance. It's now looking very fussy.

Yes but the SLS Black and F12 aren't it's peers. The 'regular' SLS is, as are cars like the Bentley Continental Supersports and Maserati Granturismo.

£50k is still a lot of money if you're spending £200k on a car or not.

Technically yes, but I'm not certain it'll be viewed that way. It is (If I guess correctly) Aston Martin's flagship model.?

Totally agree!

I like it though.

I would have thought the 750bhp One-77 would the flagship.

That is sold out though. I'd say this is their flagship car but it's not made to compete with the new Ferrari etc. It's more of a GT than a supercar like the Ferrari.

How many of your average AM loving punters would suddenly turn around and think they'll go splash an extra £60k at Ferrari? or an extra £100k+ on an SLS black?

How do you know the Ferrari won be a pig to drive day to day? The AM might just be a nicer ride for businessmen / footballers / bankers etc.

F12 looks great and everything but I just can't help but feel that anything like that is just a bit OTT. It's all personal style though.

Regardless I'd still be saving myself a packet either way and heading to Porsche.

So it looks like an Aston Martin then, wonder if it is possible for them to change the record and design something that doesn't look like a DB9 of some sorts

As I said previously, why? If it ain't broke don't fix it. Why risk everything? People would just whinge that it looks crap and they should have stuck to the DB9 esque styling. Also, the majority of the customers will be exsiting AM owners, therefore they will most likely want something that is an evoloution of their current car. Look at Porsche.

Well fair enough, call it the 590bhp SLS GT, 618bhp Mclaren and the new 625bhp GT Speed (which is cheaper).

Anyway, who cares? If you want the king of overpriced power just look to the Lexus LFA. I still think this looks great and probably sounds great, but would have thought Aston would be really trying to shake things up this time round after being criticised for 5 years for being conservative and outdated.

I like it. It looks purposeful and agressive. I know that when I see my first one in the flesh, i'll fall in love with it. smile

Agreed. Very similar silhouette. My first instinct upon seeing the profile shot was that it looked like some sort of 599, but after a split second longer I realised that Ferrari would NEVER allow one of their cars to be painted brown.

I agree, George. I think this looks fab, has a real flair to it, while still being true to Aston's recognisable style. It wouldn't be right for Aston to go off in a radical new direction, IMO. Also, as has been said elsewhere, this is ostensibly a new car, not a DBx in drag, so I think they've done a great job in moving the entire package forwards.

I was in a quandry over what to spend my theoretical £200K on, with not liking the 458, SLS or 12C, now my agonising is over - I'll take this, even in Metalic Austin Maxi Brown lick

They got rid of the stupid wheels at least. But to my eyes it's very very nasty.
Though Aston Martin should be commended as for the first time since the 80's Lagonda, they've made a car i really don't want.

All of you people saying "if it aint broke, dont fix it" in terms of the styling...what are you talking about!?

So are they going to make slight variations on the DB9 for the next 30 years? You dont make one thing, then settle and milk it forever, you make something new. Look at Jaguar who went from the E-Type to the XJS. Sure the E-Type looks a million times better, but you cant just keep making the same thing, its boring. Challenge yourself, surely thats what designers are for? The SLS looks unique, the Vanquish looks like I've seen it all already.

And before you all pipe up saying "look at Porsche 911 - the same design for 50 years", yes, you are right, it is the same design for 50 years, and thats boring too. Iconic, yes, but also boring. And I doubt you'd spend £190k on a Porsche 911.

What a fantastic car. I want one. Infact, i want one that colour. And reviving the Vanquish name. Near on 100 years of AML - long may they reign. I'm not bothered about Lambo's or Fezza's - you can keep them. I dont care. I love Aston's and i bloody love this. bowtie

Steve McQueen's Ferrari is stunning! Not sure why the previous poster claimed Ferrari would never paint their cars brown.........when they clearly have done in the past & continue to do so now.
