Now stick the whole thing in a hot wash and shrink it to 993 size!

VTEC is a bit st in terms of delivery compared to Porsche though.

It's a bit like cheating really...

Certainly an improvement on the cooking 991s which I find unbearably bland. This is bound to be north of £100k though so heaven knows what the GT cars and the turbo are going to cost.

Absolutely love the 991, 430bhp from a regular production N/A 3.8 is pure witchcraft - expecially considering how smooth, economical it is and reliable will undoubtedly be.

Those other engines are all fantastic but as package I belive Porsche has set a new benchmark with this engine. The S2000 is only a 2.0 (it easier to get high bhp/litre from smaller engines) and lacks torque. The M5 V10 drinks like a space shuttle and also lacks torque for it's size. The Ferrari costs twice as much, will be higher maintainance, far less economical and and im fairly sure will lag far behind in terms of reliability.

explain to the masses

edit to add , i know porsches are popular but its not a foucs or an astra or even a 3series in terms of mass production ,volume wise .

the 1 litre ecoboost engine in the new focus with circa 123bhp is much more of an technical achivement ,as thats got to take a battering from mums on the school run

The old Powerkit was £8400, so expect the new one to be a similar price.

The Aerokit is £3379.

out of interest, what's the service interval on the s2000 m5 etc?
the 991 is 20K / 2 years like all of the current Pork range - that's what amazes me !

if you multiply 325lb ft (for carrera S) by (3.8/5) it comes out at about 425 so hardly loads more than the M5 which is now 7 years old and a cheaper car and it being "more car".....to a certain extent you'd hope the much newer porsche would be better!

also....the M5 lacks torque for its size? i've not heard anyone mention the C63 AMG lacks torque for its size, which is less per litre than the M5.

Its turbo charged... different ball game.

Although the reports I have heard about this engine are amazing and its incredible that it manages to feel like a much bigger capacity 6 cylinder engine than a blown little 3 cylinder. So it is a great tech acheivement but not for its specific output IMHO.

"The Powerkit is also distinguishable by a titanium-coloured engine cover and carbon inlays."

Makes it worth the money on its own. Ahem.
"Titanium-coloured" that'll be fake metallic stuff then. Joy.

Exactly, 911 buyers normally rock up to a dealer throw a blank cheque at the sales man and let him fill it out.
Well they must have been disappointed when I rocked up then and asked for a discount some might do what your describing but most don't.

Even my rattly old Honda makes 104bhp/litre. Not all that impressive.

Tongue in cheek but not a joke.

I guess it's a can of worms but if you focus on absolute BHP per litre then fair enough but the lack of torque is rather tedious.

Kong put it better than me.

I'm sure those with blank cheques are in the minority.

They had a better picture of the new Aerokit in the latest Christophorous on a red car.
