Powerkit for Porsche Carrera S

Can't wait for the GT3? Then this might be the 911 for you...

Porsche has released a power upgrade kit for the new 911 Carrera S as part of a host of upgrade options from its 'Porsche Exclusive' range.

Aerokit cup gets double rear wing

The Powerkit brings the Carrera S up to 430hp from 400hp, and cuts the 0-62mph sprint down by 0.3 seconds to 4.0 seconds (with PDK and Sport Plus) and creeps the top speed up to 191mph for the manual car. That's identical poke to the old 997 GT3, which means it could be the ideal car for those hankering after a new GT3 but who either can't wait, or don't fancy the idea of a PDK-only GT3 Porsche. Especially since the 991 now gets plenty of clever tech - such as active engine mounts and torque vectoring - that were previously available for GT3 or turbo models only.

The extra power is achieved through the inevitable electronic engine management tweaks, but also by special cylinder heads with different camshafts. There's also a sports exhaust, recognisable by its unique tips. The Powerkit is also distinguishable by a titanium-coloured engine cover and carbon inlays.

For the full quasi-GT3 experience, you can also now spec your Carrera S with various aero addenda, the most extreme of which is the Aerokit Cup (pictured), which gets a fixed wing over the ducktail rear spoiler that's part of the 'Sport Design' pack and a front lip spoiler with additional air intakes. Who needs to wait for the GT3 proper, eh?

Then again, you could just head to the PH classifieds for a used 997 GT3...

Hmmmm, not sure. Don't think the red suits it there.

So has it been confirmed the new GT3 is PDK only? I must have missed that but not good news.....

Edit: ah, I see the story on the GT3 now - still speculation though

If you have to ask...

I'd reckon on 10k just for the engine mods alone, before you even get to aero.

Quite like the new wing; makes it look less droopy at the back without looking too OTT like the GT3 tends to. Probably the best looking 911 since they went watercooled, IMO.

I like the red as well, the white is horrible.

Exactly, 911 buyers normally rock up to a dealer throw a blank cheque at the sales man and let him fill it out.

Hate that saying, it really makes no sense.

That's one attractive looking car with specs to match. Could be the best all purpose 911 me thinks.

Wow! That red one is the first good looking 991 to me to date. I thought it was a 997 GT3 at first...

From someone who spent a week at the 'ring a few months back watching people man handling howling manual GT3's round the place, the thought of a PDK only version makes me sad! frown

it's probably the 430bhp PDK car vs the 400bhp manual car. no way in hell would simply adding 30bhp take 0.3s of an already quick 0-62mph time. it would if some car was going from 60bhp to 90bhp but not 400 to 430.

Given the death of the Mezger six, does this mean that the new GT3 will come with a revision of this engine? What's left to change other than connecting rods, pins and plenum etc

Has the rev limiter been raised with this powerkit?

I'm looking forward to a 997.2 GT3 vs 991 PK test.

Does every single article on PH have to link to the classified ads section? Yes we all know it's there!

Absolutely love the 991, 430bhp from a regular production N/A 3.8 is pure witchcraft - expecially considering how smooth, economical it is and how reliable will undoubtedly be.
