No. There was a very straight looking E36 325i coupe at £795 a few pages back. I would have had a look but I ended up picking up an Omega instead.

The first 6 months of 530i production had a GM gearbox. Cars produced 04/01 and later had a ZF5HP19.

the box in the Ebay auction is from a 90's BMW. Probably an earlier 528i as the later 528's had a GM box.

I wouldnt be using it in a 530i. It's ancient, it came out 20 years ago!
You sure, my nov 00 built 525i definitely has the ZF box
The 5HP 18 is the 5 speed switchable mode adaptive unit used in E34s, E32s, E36s and M60 engined early E38s, but there are a few early E39s that also used it in the 523/528i and 525tds. The 525/530i used the ZF 5HP 19.

Easiest way to illustrate the difference is by their shift gates:

ZF 5HP 18:

ZF 5HP 19:
Thanks Len, very informative as always. So as I need a ZF 5HP 19, this should be ok;

Well, I've never been that interested in Mercs, but since my purchase I've been having a nosey around.

I know these can be rusty the dog, but this seems a lot of v8 for the money - no mention of history though. It's local to me if any wants me to have a look.

Spidey alarm. Dealer with cars pictured all over the place. Terrible presentation even if its 'cheap'.

Bloody lovely. My mum had a Daimler double 6 in the seventies and I lived it (I was 6 years old). I've wanted one, or the Jag equivalent ever since.

Seems a little excessive on a 430. Makes me want a facelift E55 even more however.

I like that, particularly the wood and black interior. Not sure that steering wheel is original (wouldn't it have had the ugly original airbag wheel with the embossed BMW logo?) and the stereo and angel eyes need to be reverted to originals.

What makes that e34 worth that much? The manual box? The leather? I wasn't expecting anything near that for my newer, similar mileage 525SE auto with cloth.

FYI - update on my exploits this weekend:

[quote=foxonfirehere]
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...
- This was pretty tidy, struggled to find much of a fault with it, manual seats... wheels weren't quite perfect, 2 small chips in windscreen, shame I don't want to spend that much money... no shimmy - got it up to 90, satnav working etc.

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C319279 - sold

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012... - average/below - wheels a bit tatty, tyres a mixed bag, some rust around arches/sills, has induction kit, cheap / crappy carbon tape over the plastic trim (the bit that would be wood on a nicer setup), possibly a bit of shimmy at 60(best I could get to and not the smoothest road). some half decent service history - recent lower front ball joints, BUT MOT had a decent list of advisories that don't have any evidence of being done - both lower arm bushes front, front discs+pads, rear pads etc. ALSO - the paddle shifters don't actually work - but its a pretty nice wheel and should be possible to make them work (read about it somewhere)

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012... - "no" service history with the car (seller says they've only just got it so will check with BMW), rocker cover gaskets leaking oil (a bit - one side worse - looks more like its coming from spark plug seals perhaps i.e. between plug/coil cover and exhaust manifold, visible from the top), boot was a state not a full tool kit (had jack, triangle and monkey wrench - rest a mega-mess), interior was fairly decent, few little marks from drivers elbow (no phone). Has old 4:3 screen - no nav subscription. OBC was reading average 10.5mph and 12.6 mpg when I got in it (LOL, managed to get them both up ~2 in a short jaunt up the inner london M4). Had error message flash "check brake linings" - seller says they've just got it and will get it checked out and sorted. One of the tyres (the one pictured on the autotrader add) is quite damaged, serious kerbage - but its a matching pair of decent Dunlops (914?) other than that. Front tyres are decent stuff if getting worn (Michelin pilot sport and dunlop 01 sport) - so signs that someone semi-recently was prepared to spend some money on it. Will see if he finds a BMW history, fixes the brakes, fresh MOTs, changed the dodgy tyre and maybe make an aggressive offer negotiating the rocker cover gaskets, if none of the others I view are any good.

Also saw:
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...
- this was 'ok' but some things were putting me off, pass side bumper to quarter was dodgy - had a little knock - no obvious damage so possibly just a parking knock that's displaced it - might be able to adjust it ok, but there was a sign of a knock/parking ding on the bumper back there so probably genuine... but spidey sense and all... Also randomly passenger door card wood trim came out loose and clearly wasn't secure - drove ok, could just about feel a difference for SE (vs the sport touring and V8s I drove)

Why did you bother driving that one of you don't want to spend that much money? From looking at the other ones, that looks like the best one, and ok, it's not a V8, but still a great engine and half decent economy. Why not make a cheeky offer?

Personally I don't think it is worth the asking price, but if you had been looking for a manual E34 with a bigger engine and sports seats for a while in fairly original condition, not many have come up for sale.

Emeye, I sold my nice but not perfect M reg 525i Auto with cloth, for £1200 earlier this year, took 3-4 weeks to find a buyer, how much did yours go for? I would think V8, manual and leather is worth a bit more?
