Feeling strong of stomach gents? Enjoy this old interview with Tom Hartley...in the sauna.

I know it's not a barge, but I feel I'm amongst like minded fellows here...
He's a tit on a pretty massive scale.

It would appear that in the case of his two sons, the apple didn't fall far from the tree.
I think there was a thread on here some time back where Tom Hartley Jnr popped up and defended himself pretty badly when someone was complaining about a Lambo they had been to see at his place.

I'm not much of a twitterer but when i've been on for a browse TH Jnr and his brother don't come across particularly well. Sadly I'm not in the market for cars that cost a couple of hundred grand but if I was i'm not sure i'd buy from them.

Wait until a couple of days before the end of the month and offer him £1,500 for it, I think... wink

Even at £2500 it seems like a good buy, lovely combo of exterior and interior colours (although I'm partial to hearing aid with a black dash) and full ginger spec.

And it'll get snapped up by a dealer and readvertised if desperation is creeping in! Looks lovely though.

I emailed that 750 owner and he couldn't provide any history for the car. Apparently the previous owner was a garage owner and didn't log any work. Spidey senses tingled at that.

Apart from that, the seller sounded like a genuinely nice chap and very honest. I just can't afford to get something like that and for it to fall apart the next day

Any advice on what to look for, common faults of this age etc. Have done a load of research already just incase I've missed anything! Seems a cracking colour combo, described history seems good. And looks ace in pictures. With long T&T if I can knock a few hundred quid off the asking price, run it until the bork kicks in. Sell valuable bits and scrap. Can't go too wrong?

Cheers, EM

Could cobbles be the new grass? This location would makes anything look classy!

Looks smashing, I've always liked that colour+wheel combo for the exterior. Interior could do with a black steering wheel, but at a bag you can't be so picky!

And whilst a 9 year old car having 7 owners MIGHT be fine, you've got to ask why. I'd only consider going to look at it if it was very near. Even then I'd probably find something else to leverage my bork-chest on...

Very modest haggle to thread budget:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Volvo-S80-2-0-D-2008-SE-...

Manual too smile High(ish) miles, but they take them well, theres another 100k in that car smile

And as a demonstration of what fantastic value barges are in the UK, heres (essentially) the same car in NL:

http://www.autoscout24.nl/Details.aspx?id=21925582...

(€14,750)!

But probably done according to the indicators.....

Wouldn't bother me particularly. What horrific damage will have been caused by going 6k between oil changes? I'll tell you - none. Even with 2.5k a year travelled - that's enough to keep everything lubricated.
We'll have to disagree then. It's not the mileage between the services that worries me, more the time period.

You think one thing, I think the other. Ho-hum.

My 12 year old 7 Series has 7 owners I think and it's not had a penny spared and was sold as an approved used in 2009! It's absolutely fine.

In much better condition than other examples with far fewer owners.

I think my point is that, all other things being equal, I'd be more nervous of a 7 owner car than a 2 owner car.

When that car is something a little niche and different, with a slight reputation for being a bit borky, and expensive to fix, I'd be more nervous.

The combination would mean that I would only travel a short distance to view something like the W8 mentioned, as the chances are higher that it is a pup.

I might not be, but you'd have to really like them to travel a long way to view it. That's all...

Almost certainly because they buy it thinking they can live with the fuel consumption, then a week later find they can't.......

It is amazing how many large engined cars you see being chopped in after 3 months - even at a loss which would pay for a LOT of fuel!

On an old barge it is what works (or doesn't work) at point of sale which counts. You can't buy them in internet fantasy land like this thread and judge them on paper - they need to be purchased in the old fashioned tyre kicking way.
