BTW, I wasn't suggesting you can buy a 60k miler for 3k. Buy privately for 4k - seller's very, very happy, you're happy and the economy keeps ticking over. Dealer not budging from 5k is just a greedy cant.

As far as smoker barges go, I'd call this a "desirable E60" - low mileage, one owner from new, and I bet even the tyres would please Mr Fox. (Just not the car to which they are attached).

That looks like value to me. Looks nice too.

Fox - why chuck away a bag for a few less miles on the clock?
Oh I agree - but that is a different argument to the 'its not worth £5k' one. It probably is, its just that you (and me, probably) think that the the higher mileage ones are no worse.

They're not exactly new cars anymore.
Which makes not bothering with a particularly good example (if that one is, of course, who knows what bork is lurking?) for the sake of 'value' on the asking price is, in my opinion, a bit foolish really.

They are getting old. Good ones are getting ever rarer. If you see a good one, grab it.

It's 5k, not as if its 10k or something is it. Paying a grand over to get hold of a rare low miler isn't the end of the world and its not as if the market is full of 60k milers at 3k is it? That said paying sticker from a trader would seem odd.

I wish I had more customers with that attitiude, but most don't.

It depends on how long you plan to keep the car, if you plan to keep it ages it will depreciate to virtually nothing anyway whatever you buy. However, if you plan to resell relatively soon you will see a drop because finding another buyer who takes the same attitude will not be easy.

Cars are like houses in that they have a ceiling. You can spend whatever you like on a house, extend it, improve it, fit gold plated bathrooms but if the going rate of similar ones next door is £300,000 you won't sell it for £450,000. E39's are like this in that however nice it is, there is a ceiling point for them.

I agree with Woody - lacks climate control and sat nav, but it's got the sport steering wheel, a good colour scheme and decent alloys. For a diesel that seems excellent value.

Sat Nav - £100 from Amazon
Climate control - turn aircon on and off when required.
Owned from new by a chap who looks (from the pictures) like he'd take bloody good care of it - priceless.

I'm quite tempted myself, it's not something I've ever really considered before (diesel auto) but something about it is calling me. Possibly the red-ish leather...

I pointed them out because they're downsides, but I did say it looked nice. However, you're buying the car not its owner so it's up to you whether having a Tomtom obscuring the iDrive screen is in any way relevant to your enjoyment going forward.

It actually does have climate control, its just crap climate control. It lacks things like a sun load sensor, fogging sensor etc etc and has cheap plastic twirly knobs with no display. Because hey, it saves money right? Just like those crap reflector lenses, not nice projectors like you'd find on an E39 or an E34 or a cheap Mazda3, but crap reflector lenses like you find on a Ford Fiesta. Just sums the entire...

.. I'd better shut up. I could derail the entire thread ranting about the E60 and frankly its probably not all that relevent.

Good point - I've just checked and BMW call the basic version 'Automatic Air Conditioning' and the better version 'Automatic Air Conditioning-advanced' which really doesn't explain the differences very well.

Climate control as an expression is probably not correctly used now, least of all by me. Even my girlfriend's 2010 Polo will maintain a temperature so technically has climate control.

Fantastic. I love that Jaguar have the good sense and taste to put a black dashtop, door cappings and steering wheel with their lightest interior option. It'd be horrific if those bits were beige.

I am really tempted by this... What are the bork areas? Are the engine and auto box prone?

There must be something wrong with this. It's far too cheap. I'm very suspicious! confused
