you know what you really want. you want a barge in approx 12 months....one that's in E38 flavour, has been well looked after and gets reasonable economy for a mates rate
Hmm as much as I want a W140/Bismark class battle ship an E38 does appeal. You're missing 6 bangers though. I guess both are great for pushing those awful LS400's off the road.as much as you say you want more cylinders, you have repeatedly said you'd want something not horribly expensive on fuel.....which do you want? (well, we know what you WANT, but which would you choose for daily running?)

so how many bangers is your car missing

Missing none. A twin cam, 3 banger with 4 valves per cylinder is waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy more interesting than a typical 4 cyl 8 valve.as much as you say you want more cylinders, you have repeatedly said you'd want something not horribly expensive on fuel.....which do you want? I want this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QwmkomWNTA (please look away when the camera looks at the shot of the MPG counter)
but in reality I would quite like this: http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...

so 6 cylinders is missing 6 cylinders, but 3 is enough. wait, what? i agree with your sentiments though, a 2 valve/cylinder 4 pot would generally be less rev happy than your 3pot twin cam....it's a perky little engine, just rather leisurely on the progress front.I want this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QwmkomWNTA (please look away when the camera looks at the shot of the MPG counter)

that S600 is awesome. less than 10mpg at those speeds not toooooo bad in reality, no idea what the E92 M3 gets but, as you know from the other day, it gets less than 7mpg when your foot is flat down.
the 330d looks too expensive for me. the 330d in E46 flavour you REALLY want is a 2003 model. my dads old one was literally one of the very first facelifted 330d's into the UK.....March 2003 and had the rare 6 speed manual box which is what you really want, as well as getting an extra 20bhp. you can get a decent 330i for a fair whack less than that, and have a fair bit saved over for fuel.
oh - this is what you want for smoking on the autobahn http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTXH0kSzq58

Sure it won't be quick, but no Quattro worries and better fuel consumption are appealing.
That and the fact it looks fantastic.
Well the bleed screws looked ok. Replace them with new ones anyway. 20 minutes later I get a low coolant warning and it had spat a load of coolant over the engine bay via the expansion cap tank..... I believe the system had too much coolant in, as since the last service (when the coolant was replaced) when cold the level indicator has been poking half an inch out of the tank when the caps off. This could be why the bleed screws were leaking and me replacing them forced the coolant out via the cap... doesn't appear to be leaking now and after I let it cool and topped it up a bit it drove home fine. No overheats or anything. Pretty scary though

The spec isn't great on that 2.8. No heated rear seats, no sat nav, no mention of a phone, no ski hatch. Missing a few nice little toys, but no doubt still a lovely way to do the miles, even if it is FWD. Still worth a look though, at that price. Cheap enough to rip out those old man seats and put some of the Sport seats in.

The deletion is achievable on the Land Rover Freelander.
I've never heard of it done on an A8 before. If anything, I'd suspect the gearbox would feel more stressed trying to put the 3.7 or 4.2's power through the front wheels! And the cost of such a rare conversion would be steep. It's not even something specialists like A8parts offer. Better off just buying a decent one that's had the box serviced and keeping your fingers crossed and £1500 set aside in case you do run into trouble that an oil+filter change can't fix - many people who thought their gearboxes were failing had the oil and filter changed in the box and found it ran perfectly again. And then there are those who say 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' with regards to opening the gearbox for servicing, with mega miles on their cars.Baryonyx said:

i thought about leaving mine but had it done in the end. whilst i was there, i got my engine oil changed too, even though my engine was still running fine Baryonyx said:

Seriously? You think no heated REAR seats and no ski hatch on a 13 year old car is 'poor spec'? Even the Sat Nav is no great loss and a more modern Audi unit is cheap and easy to source on Ebay anyway.Fox- said:

I should rather say, the spec is great compared to what you'd find in a hire car, but there are a lot of nice little touches that you might really appreciate as an owner missing on the lower spec cars which aren't really any cheaper than the top spec ones. I never thought I'd use the ski hatch on mine until I bought some shelving units at Ikea and found they fitted perfectly through. The Sat Nav I still haven't figured out but the multimedia screen is great. The heated rear seats are nice to have though I will charge for passengers using them! The rear electric blind is a masterstroke. When I'm driving along with the sun glaring into the cabin, the push of a button sorts it all out.Other stuff like the cruise control though, I could live without.
