Hi,
I'm currently looking to purchase a new car. Do i go for a ford focus ST 06 with high insurance. Or a BMW 3 series? and if BMW, which one would be ideal! Any Ideas?

CONFUSED!

Yes, go for the 3 series - the M3 model.

Err, whatever the additional merits of the M3 are (and in absolute terms it is a total non-argument), if an ST is high insurance, there's Bob that the insurance on an M3 isn't going to be anything less than a touch more strident. Chuck in double or more running costs (bar fuel) & to someone on a budget, things aren't quite so b&w.

OP -- What Bimmer do you want/think you can afford (some form of 6, presumably)? How many miles do you do? Budget? Sensitivity to running costs? A hundred & one other things.

Mates got a 330 coupe, I've got an 08 ST. I think he's more impressed with the focus than I am with the beemer. 330 is lovely don't get me wrong, but the focus is the best all round car we've had in the family by a massive margin. Absolutely love mine.

Id love an ST, but I dont think I could afford the petrol!!! Think the Mk2 ST may actually prove to be more sought after by Ford fans than the new Mk3, tbh, in a few years time. Better looking and more character. THe new one seems to be aiming at the Golf GTI swiss army knife title, which VW tend to do better than Ford.

OP, a lot of people would like to help you but we need more info to go on. What's your budget? How many miles do you do and what sort of MPG can you afford?

Have you got to carry large amounts of horse manure on a daily basis or is room for a single briefcase sufficient?

Do you need to carry lots of people (ie, do you carry rear doors?)

Give us info to go on and we can help you a lot more.

Focus rs or a 3 series is a tough call. The st vs a decent 3 series I'd take the bmw

ST over anything over than an M3..........

Even if an M3 is an option factor in running costs.

From experience servicing is cheap on a Focus, four decent tyres can be had for <£400, and there are plenty of options to get upto circa 280bhp for very little outlay.

If you can afford it then a decent E46 M3, if not a decent ST. A 330i and an ST are miles apart in performance terms especially if the ST is tuned.

Really?

Late 330i's have around 260hp don't they and even early ones still have more than a stock ST.

You’ve got to be kidding me. I’ve been further even more decided to use even go need to do look more as anyone can. Can you really be far even as decided half as much to use go wish for that? My guess is that when one really been far even as decided once to use even go want, it is then that he has really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like. It’s just common sense.

If fuel's an issue don't even think about an m3. To get the performance out you need to run high up. You'll just end up resenting it.
