Have just stumbled on images of this VW, I never knew existed. Now I really want one.

About 10,000 were built in Brazil, between 1972-1976. It had a rear mounted 1700cc air cooled engine.

Has anyone got/seen one in the UK?

There has been at least one in the UK, at a VW dealership in north London, I once road tested it for a VW magazine.

There's one in the Sheffield area, a friend of mine who runs a VW Specialists there has done work on it in the past.

There was one for sale in Dublin earlier this year, with a RHD conversion, they wanted €18,000 for it and it sold reasonably quickly. I'd spend the money on a 911 personally, which surely inspired the back end of the SP2.

Afraid not, it was over twenty years ago. It was most likely in Volkswagen/Audi Car.

It's a nice looking car, till your turn the engine on and listen to it. To me the VW air-cooled puts me off as a sports car engine. But if you're into VWs it's a very exotic car outside of Brazil. Not fast at all though. Top speed was 95 mph when new and 0-62mph was 17.4 sec. There was a prototype by a local tuning company that had the engine swapped by a 1.5L VW water-cooled motor similar to that of a golf, and this reached around 115mph in tests. But it never went into production because VW stopped producing the car. One of the reasons for low sales was that the car's performance couldn't keep up with it's looks. frown
