FFS man, lighten up you bloody anorak, it was a joke, earth humour, get back in your bedroom and play with your joystick geeky-boy
Wow, you ask me to lighten up at the same time as going off on one because you don't really get meta-humour.

And yes, I'm quite proud of being a geek thanks very much, although never been a fan of joysticks - pads, mouse & keyboard or steering wheels for me smile

I had the savannah trim in mine, and know it is loved by some and hated by others but the "plastic wood " trim is fking horrible!

Sorry it's hideous! Why would you spec dogst brown all over the inside of the car?! It might almost be acceptable on the seats, but Porsche went all fisher price and did anything they could think of in the same colour, total overkill.

Black on black Is the only way to go for the interior IMHO...

I bought an 02 996 turbo last year for a bit more than that with a lot less miles and its an awesome car, if you get the chance to own one do it if you can. i have had stis, rs4s and other porsches but this has to be the quickest road car ive driven and if anyone says it hasnt got a soul try giving it the beans and the scream from that gt1 engine soon reminds you that the car is firmly in the list of porsches great cars!
someone commented on the near parity of prices beteween s and turbo models, i guess the s models have kudos and are simpler but in my opinion you may as well get the turbo its much quicker ( especially when putting out 520bhp as mine is !)

As a PCGB member I've owned various 911's for a total of 13+ years so have a bit of experience in them but all said this is only my opinion. The 996 was possibly Porsche's best selling 911 and subsequently flooded the market, there's gazillions of them for sale, it's is generally recognised as being one of the most unloved 911's of all times, the 964 being second to it. beauty is the eye of the beholder and for someone looking for outright performance for less money they are a fantastic bargain. Someone looking for a proper 911 they are not the one to buy. As has already been said on this thread, I went to the launch of the 996 at the motor show the first impression when I saw it on the stand was the flat lines of the side profile and those bloody awful fried egg headlights. I later saw it at my local Porsche Centre, the first impression when I sat in it was the plastic cheap and nasty interior.

These have dropped the guts on £100k to sub £20k for a reason, they are likely to fall further.

If your just looking for a bargain 911 and prepared to lose serious money in it's further depreciation go for a 996, if you're looking for a pucker 911 to hold or even gain in value, don't.....another 'don't' is making a comparison between these and 997 simply because their isn't one.

I disagree completely I've always aspired to a 911 turbo. I previously owned a mint 911 carrera 2.7 cab maroon with cream leather widebody fishtail etc. the car was gorgeous but interior was so dated and old compared to cars of the same year, then moved on to 944 turbo and then 968 club sport. Now in the position to own a newer 911 turbo I went to look at and test drive a 997 and 996, the 997 has a nicer interior than the 996 but the 996 is just what you need plain and unfussy. The 997 although quick with bigger wheels etc doesn't feel as quick as a good 996 turbo, the chassis and steering seems better sorted and more involving than the 997 turbo that's why I went for the 996! Mine is totally original spec apart from bhp upgrade to 480 bhp it's mentally fast:0) the 996 turbo is a fab car just you tube top gear, fifth gear and best motoring vids. They all agree the car had the best sorted chassis and is an amazing car! Top gear lap times 996 turbo soaking wet track 1.31 dead faster than an m3 in the dry and clarckson reckoned if it was dry it would have beat the Lamborghini murcialagos time. Lastly a few thousand spent on a gt2 kit will make the car instantly more eye candy if you can't live with the 996 looks I mean c'mon guys the gt2 looks uber lovely, fair enough it's got wider rears a bigger rear tail a bigger front splitter but it is a 996 lights and all. I was trying to put my name on a build of the new gt3 £100.000 car but they all went quickly, now looking at the new 911 turbo s nearly 40,000 more, got the car for a whole day to peruse over and evaluate and my choice of colour if I buy one will be yellow or red. I worked out if I option a turbo it would work out more than the TURBO S so a no brainer really

I have a 2004 996 x50 turbo and thought I would move it on after a few years. BUT!, after a remap and a new exhaust, gt3 front discs, power up to around 520bhp I must admit I am smitten with the car. It is so fantastic in every way. I have the aero kit and x50 upgrade which not only IMO makes the car look great, it also makes it a amazing performance car. The handling and power is just something else on track and on the B roads.

To all those who say it is boring to drive I have only one response roflrofl, you have either never driven one or you do not how to drive, or you are A PUSSY to scared to take the car to its limits.

DRIVE IT HARD, ANY ENJOY smile

I am keeping mine till either the car is scrap or I die,
I too have recently bought an X50 and remapped it with a nuvolari exhaust, nothing touches it this side of a 458, if someone passed me on a B road then they'd seriously be risking their life to do it safely, I came from a 997 C2S and that felt like it was pulling a caravan in comparison, I've owned a TVR Tuscan and this is another level!

Mines a midnight blue 2002 tiptronic... X50 Yes a tip! Extended leather, £2k of pioneer media with amps etc, aero kit full dealer history at 56k miles, I thought I'd hate the tip but I don't want to push this while stirring a stick!!
