Great article, and a great car too. Love it, has a sense of drama around it.

A very good friend of mine has an "S". He took me round Oulton Park in it on a track day. It was just savage. The noise is just excellent.

Why didn't the original owner just buy the Bathurst demo car? surely would have been cheaper.

That's a mental car!

Not quite my cup of tea, but fully appreciate and respect it's power.

As far as 4 door super-saloons go, it's a cracker, and I doubt that ANYTHING would be able to keep up with it...

I drove a supercharged VXR8 (auto) last year and was amazed by the accuracey of the steering, the size of it and the build quality.

(and the weird shaped handbrake with the release button on TOP of it)

What a hero! Too true on the wish I'd done that front, we've all blown money on a car that logically and financially didn't make sense but it's all about the experience along the way. Kind of prefer it without the spoiler actually. Good lad.

As a fellow VXR8 owner I can totally agree with Gary's enthusiasm for the car, they are very special and a car you really have to have a go in to see and feel the appeal!

I've sat in Gary's and had a nose around it and the amount of work he has put in to it is truly unbelievable!

Simply amazing cars!

Mine in all it's blackness................

Hi Stef smile

Cast your mind back three years or so...was it you over Tweseldown chasing a dark blue Astra (swmbo company car) that 'let' you past on Sandy lane in Hants? We just wanted to hear the noise! wink

Mind you, we dropped you in the last tight twistie wink

Cheers,

C.

No idea why but WP stripped it and the car sold on through Network Q as an "ex management" /demo bogo white VXR8.

Wonder if the current owner knows its history?!

It would have been cheaper to respray a car than it would to transplant it's mechanicals into another one.

If you ask around, you'll not find many people who - should they fancy a chance of colour for their car - buy another and swap the hardware over smile

It's such a god-awful ugly brute of a car it's fantastic... this thing was just made to floor it past you on a dusty highway disappearing into the outback with an awesome V8 howl filling the air.

Great story behind a fascinating car. Have to love those small block Chevies. Pushrod pigiron they might appear to us but they are so tuneable and bombproof (ref Jay Leno's latest vid on his Chevy Deuce Hotrod, 600hp no problem, and no more thirsty than an RX8). Proper practical muscle car madness. Good on you Gary, best Carpool for ages.
