MPG is fuel consumption.
Obviously. Perhaps I should have spelt it out a bit more:

Fuel consumption is not a major issue as I do so few miles, but generally speaking I'd prefer something that used less fuel over something that used more fuel.

When I was 17 my mum had a 205 Style. 1.1 with a 4 speed box, no PAS, ABS or anything.

I couldn't break it. Not much too break. Keys snap easily but that's about it. It had 110k hard miles when she sold it but it still ran fine and was rust free.

Is there any reason why the K11 Micra is a better nail than the K10? Is it just because it's newer?
cam chain instead of cambelt

more about being broken up so if a part is needed it should be available

k10s have about bottomed out price wise so for similar money you can pick up a newer k11 with less miles

Toyota corolla. Make sure it's one of the ones with a cam chain, buy for sub £500 and just abuse until you tire of it. You almost certainly won't be able to kill it!
I was about to say the same thing
Carina or Felicia estate would be my choice. Both brilliant cars in their own way.
My carina went from being a builders wagon one week to a wedding car the next.
The felicia would pull about 100 stone no problem and you can remove the back seats to give you a huge load space. The only thing is if you get the 1.3 it is
the old skoda engine which sounds like a bag of nails but is in my experience
pretty well bomb proof

Polo 6n, skoda fabia, seat ibiza with the 1.4 8v lump. Mega reliable. Cheap to insure and run. Bits are cheap from the scrappy. 40mpg if your carefull. Not fast or very good handling though.
I was gonna say this. Ran it from 39k to over 90k and all it needed was a clutch at 60k and an exhaust in the time I owned it. Only got rid because of a scrappage deal. No doubt it would be still running now if I still had it.

Another vote for the K11 Micra.
I've done about 50k in them over the years and never had a more serious issue than running out of screenwash!
Cheap and reliable even when driven in a manner that only a 17 year old could hehe
+ me too..!

biggrin

The wife has had a 1999 1.3 for 6 years.
60k on it, passed all of its MOT's with no advisories and has NEVER let us down.
Brilliant little thing.

A lot of the crofters in these parts drive diesel 205s. They just go on and on and on. Fairly rust proof. I know of one with about 400,000 miles on the clock now!
