Is it just me that thinks we need more basic stuff like this on our roads, modern, low cost motoring without a ton of crap weighing them down. Probably quite eco friendly as well with no resources wasted on useless gadgets.

I'm working on a new car for India. We have benchmarked some in-market leaders. They are NCAP 0 rated. We have been advised to not even drive them on UK roads.

It's a nice idea, but in practice, it won't work. We have the 'crap' for a reason.

I can see the attraction for the Indian market though. Especially when compared to the hordes of Bedford Rascal-alikes they have over there.

Largely irrelevant as those 6 individuals wouldn't even fit into today's modern cars. the reality is that they would still stuff 4 kids in the back without any restraint and have two on the front passenger's lap. Safety only works if people comply.

I saw a Toyota Caldia GT four the other day on the London north circular road.

It was obviously a JDM import,sort of Auris sized estate car.

The Caldina was originally just a rebadged Carina/Avensis wagon, until the third generation when it became more MPV-like, according to Wikipedia.

In Fiat guise, yep. I guess the Berlingo is the Citroen version but never seen the Fiat before.

Citroen version is the nemo , its a bit smaller than the Berlingo.

Also sold as the Citroen C-Elysee, but only in developing markets and Eastern Europe (might also be available in Spain and Portugal). You see loads of them in Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and so on, it's slightly more expensive than a Dacia Logan but a lot nicer too.
