Cars you didn't know existed...

Something very ordinary which I didn't know existed, as last week was the first time I had seen one - a P12 (2001-08) Nissan Primera estate. Horrible looking thing:
Looks even worse in person.
There's been a lot of... aesthetically challenged cars built over the years, but that's up there with the very "best" of them. Looks even worse in person.

Was along side one of these in traffic this morning. Its the size of an Insignia, which at first glance I thought it was, even once it had pulled ahead of me I was surprised it wasn't an Insignia.
I thought they were pretty common. I certainly see a decent number of them around here and I know one owner. kambites said:

The Dacia is a Lodgy - I went in a taxi version in Paris a few months ago and aside from the low-rent plastics it seemed OK actually. There is a related van called the Dokker which costs about £7k for a basic one here, and I'm sure would sell like hot cakes if launched in the UK. They're made in Morocco and that plant doesn't build RHD, although the Lodgy is also sold in India in RHD format.

Ah fair enough, I was wrong on the Nissan. The Dacia is a Lodgy - I went in a taxi version in Paris a few months ago and aside from the low-rent plastics it seemed OK actually. I went and had a nose through the window of the Dacia, the seats seem to be all individual and removable, it had a pretty interesting set up of child seats inside! I'm sure it'd sell really well in the UK. I didn't realise it was the same as a Dokker though, I see plenty of those around. I guess it's like the Berlingo Multispace?

The Dokker is more like the Berlingo, with sliding doors and more of a van-like interior. The Lodgy is more like a normal MPV and can have 7 seats, but they're not individually removable as far as I know, a bit more like the old model Zafira than the Scenic and Picasso.I went and had a nose through the window of the Dacia, the seats seem to be all individual and removable, it had a pretty interesting set up of child seats inside! Lodgy starts at 10k euro here in Germany
compares price-wise with a 7-8 yr old Zafira or Scenic
Similar here, Lodgy is 11k CHF and a Dokker is 10k, for 15.5k CHF you can have a 7 seat version with a/c and the 115ps 1.2 tCe engine. That's the same price as a 6 year old basic petrol Touran with 100k KM on the clock, but nobody buys them because this is Switzerland and a Dacia is not something to be seen in compares price-wise with a 7-8 yr old Zafira or Scenic

Slightly off topic, Renault won't bring the van version in to the UK as it would kill the sales of the Kangoo van which makes them more money. There was talk of the car versions coming over here, not sure if it still is thoughLord_Howit_Hertz said:

I think its a lovely looking car and with another badge on would be far more successful.Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
