Maybe I'm getting old but 1, 3 and 4 look virtually the same. We're living in an era of homogenised cars

Guys, you do know that the Caddy Seville is FWD, right? Hence why it's most probably a steaming pile of st to drive

You do know that waving the RWD flag to prove how PH you are is a little tedious, right?

(Especially when you've never driven the car in question)

I love the implication that it might actually be any good to drive if it was RWD. biggrin

The STS was / is.

The Seville STS is being discussed - that was transverse FWD.

This reminded me of the China market 'Citroen C2' which is a 206 with a different front and rear.

While I was looking for that, I found these Brazilian versions of the Corsa, badged as Chevrolet, that I hadn't seen before...

Yup, rwd as well. The Iranians also made a rear wheeldrive 405 saloon called the RD
Some very weird Peugeot-based combinations. There's a Paykan, which I think is a Hilman Hunter with Peugeot 504 running gear

Then you have a Samand which is a Peugeot 405 with a local body

And finally a Peugeot Pars, which is a 405 with 406-ish front and rear.

Oh and they are also in love with the saloon version of the mid-90s Kia Pride. Economic sanctions are a terrible, terrible thing.

I really like that facelifted 405. I still remember a 405 non-turbo-diesel estate I had as a loaner - slower than a slow thing but handled really nicely. Foot flat to the floor the whole thing and just chuck it into bends like a go-kart. For something that big and roomy, it really shouldn't have been possible, but then it did feel pretty light and flimsy. As for mating one to the running gear of a Hillman Hunter, I shudder to think how they've done it...

The 405 was a great car. Very comfortable, rode really nicely yet handled better than pretty much all its rivals. Wasn't hard to look at either (remember it was launched when Nissan were making the Bluebird and Austin were making the Montego!)

It really did feel like a big 205... and yes, there wasn't much to rival it for looks - the most up-to-date car in the sector otherwise was the Ford Sierra, which had decent chassis balance but otherwise felt numb and soggy.

  • cough* BX *cough* Very similar platform, and though a few years older in design, to drive it probably felt even more modern. But then I would say that laugh
P10 Primera wasn't long after the 405 either. I read that they used it as their benchmark. I also think the mk3 Cavalier was pretty modern compared to most of its rivals.

Hence why I used the "probably".
Sorry for offending you, you must be very sentimentally attached to the Seville. Were you conceived in one?

Mk3 Cavalier was far more modern than the Sierra, and that's just one example!
Even the Montego was more modern than the Sierra
