^that Merc would be quite cool if it wasn't for the absolutely gopping front end. A proper chariot for the discerning chav/3.14-key pick up driver though.

The Renault version is called the Alaskan and like the Merc is based on the NP 300 Navara - What could possibly go wrong ?!

If Merc are going down this route it wont be long till we get an Audi Amorak or BMW equivalent. Which may lead to a 3 Series/C Class ute, which could then lead to AMG/M versionsbiggrin

i seem to recall that the subaru impreza took a while to gain any interest from car enthusiasts so was off the radar and id certainly not heard of it until the mags picked up on it. they would have us believe these cars were mainly owned by farmers but would they have really had 2 litre turbo bonnet scooped bewinged saloons or wagons down on the farm?
Subarus were popular in the dales in the 80s long before the Impreza and before Colin McRae, Gran Turismo etc made them popular
WRX only came out a few years into the Impreza production too
From Memory, the first truly fast Subaru I remember was the Legacy 4cam Turbo - Much like the Impreza it was something of a rally weapon in it's day:

My second car was a 2.0NA 4cam Legacy wagon. Obviously well behind the turbos for outright pace, but 150bhp and 7700rpm from a 2.0NA made in 1990 seemed quite decent really. Didn't really have much below 4000rpm though from memory!

There were 4wd turbo Leones being rallied before the Legacy came along (as early as 1982 IIRC), but without too much real success due to lack of power.

ETA: A bit earlier than that apparently!

That's a Trabant 601, but probably on other badge, Trabant was an interesting car, made of paper which was leaking and rusting as well
redcard

I see you've been pulled up on it not being a Trabi. But they weren't made of paper, either. Common urban myth - but they were made from Duroplast, which was a kind of bakelite reinforced with waste cotton fibre. You're right about the rust, though.

I'm sure I remember reading about that in Would Sports Cars magazine about 20/ 25years ago? IIRC it was new from the factory when it had a misshap. Theowner got some head technician from Porsche who was in some way involved with the 959 program, to oversee the rebuild/ convertiblisation.
