Not a car that I have never seen/heard of, but I had forgotten completely about them until last weekend when I saw one:

Belmont? Or was that the earlier-shape saloon?

I've never heard of it or seen one before, so I looked it up (as you do). I like it, the passenger side has a rear suicide door and no b pillar like an RX8, that's probably the only way it's like an RX8 hehe . As 4 seat pickups go it's great, and it's RHD.

Edit: not just suicide doors... The rear window and bulkhead open up biggrinhttp://jalopnik.com/the-toyota-bb-open-deck-is-use...

I think that shape was just the Astra saloon. The shape before was Belmont though.

I didn't know that, but I'm glad I now do. Somewhere in this thread there's a half Viva and half Chevette South African thing. I really like that as an oddity.

I said it first!

Anecdotally someone in my year at school had a Belmont. He wrote it off after he removed the key coasting downhill and the steering lock engaged. He said he did this by mistake because he was laughing so much because his passenger had thrown a banana out of the window which struck a pedestrian in the face.

S2 saloons are mega rare, only one or two UK ones, I think one is original from the Channel Islands

I had one as a hire car in Spain last year for a few days. Lord knows what engine was in it but it was painfully slow.

Since living out here in NZ, I've come across quite a few (I presume) Jap imports which we don't get back in the Uk. I don't really think we've missed out as they all seem pretty dull, but there are occasionally some really interesting ones (not necessarily below)

There are quite a few old Kei cars about like the Subaru Ace/Rex:

Hadn't come across a Nissan Lucino before one of our friends bought one

Delica's seem very popular, I knew about the older model you occasionally see in the Uk but not the latest model. Looks a bit like a hummer H3 mashed up with an old Ford Galaxy - pretty ugly!

The Ssangyong Actyon wins in the ugliness stakes though, god knows what they were thinking when they came up with this:

The 100 based s4 was a 5pot turbo not a v8 - audi did a v8 model but it was a model in its own right known simply as the "audi v8"
