I had one of these from 1982, just like the one below but with 3 doors. Can't even find a picture of one to post. I believe it had been imported from South Africa.

Looks like a standard Passat B2, perhaps not availble in the UK, but all over the place here.

Ssangyongg Korando Sports, followed a '15 plate one of these this morning:

I prefer that to the Navara style things you usually see.

Do these things still have Mercrdes-Benz engines?
FFS why can't Asian car companies get details/proportion right frown

look at the daft fold in the bodywork behind the rear wheel. Nothing wrong with a conventional flared arch.

I was at a Vauxhall dealership earlier for a part and there was a Vauxhall Cascade parked up outside which I never knew existed. Some Insignia sized thing but uglier and was a soft top. Looked pretty nasty tbh and it was in some wishy-washy yellow colour. hurl

I came across an article about the proposed Group S rally category, which was due to supercede Group B in 1987, but was canned along with Group B, following the fatal accidents in Portugal.
Some interesting stuff here, which I'd not known about.

Toyota 222D, based on the MK1 MR2, but with a dry sumped, turbo'd 16valve engine from Toyota Le Mans works cars. Circa 600bhp, but anything up to 950bhp!evil

Audi RS 002. A secret concept designed without the knowledge of Ferdinand Piech.
Mid engined, space- framed lightweight body, mated to a redeveloped 20v engine, reputed to produce up to 1000bhp!wobble

Lancia ECV. A lighter, more sophisticated replacement for the Delta S4, with a carbon fibre and kevlar body and a twin-turbo 600bhp engine.

The ECV is an amazing machine (the only one of the three mentioned still running) made almost entirely with carbon fibre, even the wheels! The most amazing thing of that car is the arrangement of the engine, that has double exhaust manifolds (4 on each side) with twin turbos. They also made an even lighter and more powerful ECV2.

The Gol is still available today. To me it looked newer than the pointer. Look up 2015 VW Gol Mexico.
Indeed it is, all I said wwas the 2nd-Gen Gol was called the Pointer.

Never said there wasn't a Gol that came after.

This is the current one (3rd-Gen facelift)

Mitsubishi Shogun Evo:

The Exciting / Rare Car Spotted thread reminded me.. There was on of these over at the Isle of Man TT this year from the UK, saw it driving round a few times and was next to him on the ferry back. Never heard of them before but looked really cool, this one had the OZ alloys too.

Not sure if this has already come up.

But I give you the hideous nastiness that is the BMW 2-Series Gran tourer.

Is it Gran, because only your grandmother would buy it because it looks like an ugly Honda Jazz?!

In the picture you have the 2er Active Tourer, the GranTourer is the slightly stretched 7 seat version.

I was disappointed that Group S never got off the ground, the cars sounded amazing. The Audi Group S car is at their museum now, isn't it?

Saab 9-2x, basically a Saaburu Impreza, a quick google says it was only launched in the American market

Mental.
This one is mine: IMG_3125.JPG by Jonathan Gitlin, on Flickr

GM wanted something to compete with the Volvo C30 over here but couldn't afford to develop anything, and since they owned a stake in FHI at the time they stuck a Saab nose on the WRX five door, along with some STI bits in the suspension and steering, and better NVH. Then they asked a daft price - $30k for the turbo, so no one bought them.

I always thought they were the best-looking Impreza variant and when they dropped the price massively it's wife-acceptance factor suddenly rocketed. Nine years and 89k miles it's still going relatively well, although I live in terror of the day one of the Saab-specific body panels needs fixing because I don't think there are any left.

Mitsubishi Airtrek just arrived in our workshop. Apparently a beefed up, lowered and niceified Outlander running Evo Auto tranny.
