I'm I right in saying that some people may not be insured for this?

Will fully comp cover this?

Gutted to see that GTR like that. Real scary stuff.

I think we just missed this storm at work yesterday in Coleshill. We had a hell of a thunderstorm at around 11:00, there was about 2-3" of standing water in the car park in about 10mins, we lost some power for a while and the internal pipework that drains off the roof came close to failing which would have been a disaster.

God knows what the damage would have been in the car park if we had also had that hail, the bill would have been enormous.

Sorry to see the damage to your GTR OP, I've followed the last three threads on your cars and it looked a lovely car. frown

Can't believe some of the weather the Midlands got yesterday, I live on Stoke and the worst we had was a quick rain shower, other than that it was sunny and warm all day!

And here we are in Aberdeen moaning about a bit of rain and mist, gutted for you guys down there, think I would cry if mine ended up like yours.

Surely used to those weather conditions in Aberdeen?! I lived there for a year. Great city and I really enjoyed my time there, but weather often pretty poor.

OP - gutted for you - my grandad had a similar thing happen to his triumph many years ago in Suffolk - car looked like a Golf....... Ball after the hail storm - put it into the garage for a quote to repair and tey said write off - so he didn't bother and carried on driving it till they took his licence away

On the upside insurance companies may start reducing premiums for cars that are garaged

This whole "act of god" insurance scam needs to stop.

Mental. Good luck getting the motor sorted. I remember a crazy storm like that in the early 80's here in Dorset. Golf ball hailstones destroyed our greenhouse & it was a dark as night in the middle of the day! My old man kept some of the hail in the freezer to prove it to relatives.
In fact, a quick bit of googling reveals it was a supercell on June 5th 1983. Being only 7 at the time I mostly remember it being really dark, loud and scary lol

Calm down sunshine, it has stopped. Have a look through your policy, it will refer to various natural perils with no mention of any deity, bearded man or otherwise.

Did any community service workers get superpowers yesterday?

We heard all about this in Shrewsbury, but it was mainly sunny - glad of it, I'd have been in tears if my car had been caught out on it like your GT-R frown

Hope the insurance company sorts you out dude.

Wow, very suprised that that could be a write off - unless it's a lot worse than it looks in the photos. If it does go, I bet it'll be for sale in Bradford in a pearl white wrap within a month =(

this is relatively common here in Germany in the summer, I was reading in the local paper about a team of dent repair guys that travel the country, renting a big warehouse thing wherever there has been a hailstorm like this and fixing a few hundred cars, all arranged with the insurance co.s

Is that REALLY enough to write off a £50/60k car?

Covered by their insurance.

My 320d coupe was peppered with dents.

It's worth between 12-14k (or it was).

Bonnet, roof, boot, rear quarters all have multiple dents. My car is filthy so I can't quite see the extent of the damage, so I may have damage on all panels, which is likely to be honest.

I am actually hoping they write the car off, as I don't fancy it back full of filler or with resprayed panels.

Any bodywork experts comment on the likelihood of repair vs. write off? The insurer will be sending it to Coventry Sytner BMW.

A few people have said that they don't want a car with filler / resprayed. How is this detrimental to the car? Plenty of approved used cars have had bumpers / stonechips redone - is that bad? What about older cars that were partially bodge anyway?

Not attacking - just intreagued - I can get how a damaged repaired car would put you off (car not straight), but jst cosmetics?

I'm in Loughborough... Not too far from where tranter5 is I don't think. We missed the massive hail just about by the looks of it. I got hit by a bit of hail, but it can't of been any bigger than half a 5 pence piece. Instead we got rain that literally just looked like a waterfall. You couldnt see across the road, our multistory ground floor was about a foot deep in water in no time!!!

99% of those dents won't need paint or filler
