Perhaps BMW should supply a German Shepherd with the 1M!!

Most dogs would have woken the whole house up growling/barking with a few people nearby - at which point you can turn on all the lights and call the rozzers, or let the dog out 'for a pee'

Vote with our feet? Hold a massive demonstration outside BMW GB Uk for all cars in the line for being stolen? Would get good media exposure and I am sure Germany would not be too keen on the coverage.....Then Clarkson et all will start making jokes about them being targeted on Top Gear etc wink
Wouldn't this be right up the Daily Wail's street?

I suspect that they knew exactly where that car was curtesy of someone at the dealers and would have then spent a little bit of time in daylight just checking the basics of the home security.

Those guys weren't daft or your conventional street oiks. They were well drilled and looked pretty professional and the sort of chaps who work to order.

Either way, they didn't happen across the car on the driveway by just cruising around. They were told where it was and a fixed fee for delivering it.

See there's your problem mate. You went and put poncy gravel down instead of landmines. You only step on them once. People these days, don't know they were even born, I tells ya...

hehe They'd have a good time trying to access the ODB on my A3, I can't access it at the best of times! Shark Performance offer an STS handheld, which can isolate the immobilizer in turn disabling the engine altogether even if you have the keys - but who wants to program their car every time they go to bed?

Has anyone suggested that BMWs firmware shouldnt allow reprogramming whilst the immobiliser is active?

This wouldnt prevent cases where radio signals are blocked, if thats possibly part of the thieves procedure, but even here theyd be protected if the immobiliser was activated passively, like it is in most aftermarket alarms.

Have any law enforcement agencies, insurance companies or those interested in our personal data checked the VRMs of stolen motors against requests for registered keepers details from the DVLA?

How much does the DVLA charge for that information? Is it the price of one pint or two and how many of those supposedly entitled to request such information about us have criminal records?

How many of the 300 BMWs taken this way since March have had the details of their registered keepers from the DVLA?

How much money does the DVLA make annually selling our names and addresses to criminals?

You think somebody should die for a car? That's a bit excessive.
No it's not, it's what this bloody country needs to do! It's too much of a nanny state with too many bloody do-gooders saying ooh, you can't do this, you can't do that. bks - we need to come down bloody hard on scum like this and then it wouldn't happen - would it?

The recommendation of a dog still stands.. A pro thief might realise there was a dog in advance and so might be persuaded to go elsewhere. In any event, a dog in a house that close to the driveway is likely to wake up and go crazy with people on the gravel so you can call the rozzers and in putting the lights on they might do a runner.

Gutted for you, i had a similar thing 2 weeks back, only i woke up to banging at 3.30am, 3 blokes smashing my front door in with a breezeblock got in took the keys and took the car ( 3 mps ) not a nice experience.

Car was found the morning after, as the police said they usually park it up for a few days to see if it has a tracker on, only they had blocked someones drive when leaving it so the home owner called the police.

If anything its insurance companies who should be raging over this - if the cars were harder to nick you would have albanians wading through your kids bedrooms to shake you up over the keys...

Id rather they take my car than come into my house!

What's shocked me about that CCTV footage is the fact that 2 visable CCTV cameras and security lighting doesn't put them off in the slightest!!
It doesn't shock me.

Amongst other things I'm a crime prevention through environmental design consultant.

CCTV only dissuades against opportunistic crime in limited amounts. This, coupled with the amount of fake cctv and ones that are never monitored means that a well organised criminal outfit, or even someone with some forward planning, will just take measures to mitigate their identity.

Really sorry to hear about this OP. You must be gutted that such a lovely car, and one I'd like to own at some point, was stolen from your driveway in three bloody minutes frown.

With regards to the suggestion of a death penalty for stealing someone's car - I honestly think that this, or the chopped finger solution, is the way forward in dealing with this type of crime. Obviously, the severity of the crime would have to be taken into consideration, but it would go a long way to deterring scum bags like this from thinking they can take what they want with no regard to the implications it may have on the owner. All it takes is for this punishment to be issued once, and theft related crimes will fall dramatically.

It really sickens me to hear of things like this. It may be " just a car " to some people, but I'm sure I speak for a large number of PH'ers when I say that our cars are our pride and joy - something that we all love and care for like a best friend. It takes a lot of hard work, blood, sweat and tears to achieve our goals and dreams and for the OP to have what I assume to be one of his greatest achievements - owning a 1M - taken from him by a bunch of low life, worthless piece of st criminals makes me want to go and hunt them down myself.

OP - If I were you I'd be doing everything possible to make sure these thugs are brought to justice and I hope everything goes smoothly with the insurers, etc. You have the support of everyone here yes

Nicely put - my thoughts exactly. To work hard and achieve finances for a nice motor, only to have some hooded scum come and take it - punishment needs to be severe to deter this. I don't have a decent motor at the moment (by previous standards) as I'm out of work, but my German Shepherd is the best investment thus far. Hope all gets resolved op. Not even sure I'd want the car car back after being contaminated.....
