Here's a video of my 1M being stolen a few months ago at 3am. They smashed a small area of glass (No alarm went off), used a device to reprogram a key fob trough the OBD port, then unlocked the car, pushed it off the drive and gone. In 3 minutes.

BMW can't recognise a problem with their cars. I can't understand why the alarm didn't go off, and why it only took 3 minutes to steal a £43,000 car. In the west midlands alone, 300 cars were stolen like this in March 2012 alone!

Enjoy.

BMW are really going to have to admit to problems at some point.

Sorry to hear that OP.

I think it is safe to say, you wont be seeing that again, but then maybe thats a good thing after they have had it.

I can't believe that the insurance companies have not cottoned on to how easy it is to steal these cars.

Well we have just ruled out a BMW in our current search.

What bastids rage

BMW really need to sort out their security - not only have their cars become the fleet favourites like the Ford Mondeo once was, but they appear to be just as easy to steal, except now instead of using a bendy coat hanger, the scrotes use a bendy OBD cable.

Scum. Really sorry to hear that, BMW seriously need to get a handle on this or newer cars will simply become uninsurable. Surely cannot be difficult to address this ridiculous vulnerability.

scum. Sorry to see the footage OP, what was the outcome? Has the car been recovered or did you accept an insurance payout?

I was looking at buying an E90 M3 (there's a lovely approved one at the local BMW dealer) but having done a bit of reading on these thefts I think I'll steer clear.

They made that look easy. BMW need to address this quickly. Hope they are caught.

How would someone go about getting this into the mainstream media? Haven't really seen anything about it, probably not a sexy story; you know what they say though, a picture tells a thousand words. This sort of footage would surely be a PR nightmare for BMW no?

OP, as you're well aware, you're not alone.

You'll want to be sharing your views on this thread: http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f...

I think the problem could be "advertised" if it was discussed in great length.

But then, i suppose those that know, already do.

Scum bags. We had car thieves in the village last week. Someone clocked them pushing a Jeep at 3.30am, thought their clothing looked suspect, beanie hats & all in black. Called the police, who promptly arrived and after a short foot chase, arrested them. Apparently known car thieves, the Jeep was their car which had broken down and they were trying to get it back to the A road.

I certainly wouldn't begrudge a car owner for carrying out a 'Tony Martin' under these kinds of circumstances.

You think somebody should die for a car? That's a bit excessive.

With few exceptions, the people I know who own high end BMWs are regular PH users so this story would clearly be highly relevant to the PH userbase.

The lack of any coverage reflects very badly on this website.

The number of incidents along with stuff like this footage clearly show there is a major security issue for some BMW models.
