Makes the MINI Cooper S look like a good car, despite the turbo (which incidentally is nowhere near as bad as people who haven't driven one make out it is).

There you go. Knew there was a decent-looking 5-door hatchback in existence. Shame it hasn't got much company...
I think the old Leon Cupra R didn't suffer for being a 5 door, but I agree in general that 3 doors look much, much better and are far more suited to hot hatches.

As for the Renault, it looks absolutely huge. Not interested in the blown engine either; a NA engine, even if it wasn't a gem like a Honda engine, was the Clio's main USP on the market after the Civic Type R was killed off. I think the last of the NA Clio's will be very well remembered indeed. Get one now, they won't be around forever!

I thought the new Civic would be getting the 'Type R' treatment now? just not with the old K20 engine at least.

It'll probably be a hybrid "/

There is a Mugen concept for the new Civic making it's way around the web, I'm not sure what the powertrain is yet. However, a Mugen car might inspire Honda to have another crack at hot hatches, but you can bet whatever comes to production (if it happens) will not be a Mugen car unless they are given a lot of resources to make their parts in bigger quantities - and they'd have to bring the price down a lot too, their stuff is £££. Honda might try and toss their hat in the ring with a new Type R, but you can be pretty much completely assured that the car will not be a screaming NA engined one like the Type Rs of old. It's simply too hard to get an NA engine to be small capacity, low CO2, economical and powerful enough to compete with the turbo engines in the sector.

I remember reading somewhere that the new Clio would be lighter and stiffer than its predecessor due to new production processes and lighter materials. So what's all this talk about it being bloated and heavy?

As someone mentioned, K-Tec and Litchfield have remaps for this engine. I'm going to be sensible and wait until the Paris Motorshow where we'll hopefully get some factual information, and not the tantrums we tend to see on PH.

What? I am 6-foot and have friends up to 6'5". None of us have ever 'smashed our backs' on the pillar getting into the front of a 5-door car. Getting into the back of a 3-door is much more difficult.

I can see no real advantage in a 3-door car rather than a 5-door - only disadvantages. Longer door to open in confined spaces, heavier door, letting people in and out of the back, etc. A 3-door may be slightly lighter, and perhaps stiffer, but surely not enough to matter in normal driving on public roads.
I found that funny too. I'm 6'2" and I've never smashed my back on any B-pillar either. He probably takes a running jump at the open door from 10 feet away.

I don't think anyone is denying that it won't have the traits of a good RenaultSport car - its just that it's as ugly as sin.

As with any car in camo, take a HUGE pinch of salt with the way it looks. Manufacturers sometimes even add extra bodywork/trim under the camo to disguise the true shape, not the mention the camo alone is enough to make a car look pretty terrible.

Sad to see the 2.0 NA engine go, and it's also a pretty big car too.

Should sit well with all the other hatches currently available as they all look identical these days. That could quite easily be a Peugeot 208 or a Corsa etc with that high bonnet. I take it the similarities between most cars now are due to regulations?

May of already been asked but is this the same engine as.

  • nissan duke
  • the latest hot pug 208(?)
  • mini cooper s
Of which some share the same floor pan?

All becoming rather dull.

It looks awful with camo on and tbh the new twingo with the new face of renualt.

As a huge Renaultsport fan, owning 6 over the years including the Clio 200, I was deeply saddened by the news of how this Clio was shaping up. 5doors? No thanks. Turbo? Erm, no.

I enjoy the Clio thanks to its cracking little n/a engine, the chuckablity and B road killing abilities and overall fun factor. I was thinking that if it goes turbo, which I'm not saying I'm not a fan of, you might as well get the megane which is an amazing machine. What made me buy a 200 was the high revving, kick its head in to get rewarded nature of the car. Turbos are just a bit too easy for my liking.

However, if anyone can make this car work it's those little Frenchies from Dieppe. I'm very confident the car will handle beautifully, and it'll still have the fun factor about it. Only time will tell if it's more fun than its predecessors.

Me? I'll stick with the older versions. 172 track car, a Clio V6 for the short commute and weekends, though might let the mrs get a new one as a family car with its 5 doors 'n' all

I thought this wasn't a PSA/BMW engine, it's a Renault/Nissan engine so it's largely the same as the one in the Juke.

It's a good engine. Let's assume the chassis, breaking, steering and overall composure of the car is perfect. I doubt many people will be moaning. It's not like the current 2.0NA engine isn't without its faults. Same could be said about the steering, gearing etc. It's the overall package that's most important.

The engine is from the Nissan Juke, however obviously they will go racing with it, therefore the Nissan Juke 1.6 DIG-T will qualify as being race bred. Furthermore, Litchfield Imports has already tuned the same engine to approx 225 HP with ECUTEK remapping, Milltek exhaust and Forge bits so the potential is there.

The 2.0 engine was set up really, really well in the Clio. Such a shame it's on its way out.

Whoa. No matter what's under the camo there's no way that car can look good.

It looks really tall, as well. This will probably be to the Clio what the 307 was to the GTi6 - possibly the end of an era of desirable hot hatches?
Spot on, i knew what i wanted to say but could'nt make it live. 306 was a cool little car with some flair, the 307 was a bloated whale/ mpv wanna be. This is exactly what the new clio is going to be, an old people's mpv eurobox.

I don't have kids so don't need a 5 door, if you want a 3 door you should have the choice on a small car. I have the MPV/cluttered up look of a small 5 door when i don't need the extra doors.
