Car servicing from Shell, tell us what you think.
Discussion
Car servicing is high on the agenda for most PHers, and with that in mind , you’re one of the first to hear about the new website launched by Shell www.shell.co.uk/carservicing
While servicing is important, finding the time to book your car in (and knowing who to trust) could be time consuming. That’s where The Shell Car Servicing Network comes in. The online service helps drivers locate and book main dealers and franchised workshops for their car servicing or MOT tests by simply entering the registration number or the make and model of their car and their location.
Once you enter the above details, the system will supply you with 10 local dealerships to choose from and, if you wish to proceed, your details will be sent to your chosen dealer. The chosen dealership or franchised workshop will then contact you directly within an hour in order to confirm your requirements and the price and arrange the booking. You can try it out, free, here: www.shell.co.uk/carservicing.
The Shell Team is keen to hear what PHers think to this service, whether it is useful and how easy it is to use.
Choosing who services your car is a very personal choice: so how does the concept work for you and will you consider using it when your service or MOT is next due?

Great idea!!!
I'll just book the Cerb in for a service...
"Sorry, there are no TVR dealerships participating in the Shell Car Servicing Network nearby."
OK, the garage 100 metres from work does a lot of TVR work, and Fernhurst & APM are just up the road so I'll just "Browse other franchises nearby"
Result..."Drive Vauxhall Aldershot"

Thought I'd try a quote for a 'full' service and it said there were no participating garages that could work on my car - not exactly useful.
Also, the checklist of what's covered in the services has small print announcing it's 'only a guide', so hardly worth listing as what you receive could be completely different - and it didn't include spark plugs which a full service should (for my car anyway).
I would suspect most "PH'ers" would use a garage that were specialists or at least recommended by owner's forums etc - trusting some random list off the Internet isn't going to happen.
And most other car owners would I imagine just take their car to wherever they bought it from / took it to last, so without wanting to put too much of a dampener on it, I can't see where your user base would come from.

That's because no one buys petrol cars any more so why would anyone want sparkplugs?No-one AT ALL doing it round my way - and I'm not exactly in the wilderness, being in Winchester on the South Coast an' all.
Not that I'd use it cos I do all my own work - but if you roll something out like this, then you'd better be sure it works.
Which this doesn't. Seems like an epic failure to me, designed and executed badly by numpties.

Nothing for Lotus near me either (not exactly surprising at the moment) - and the prices quoted by non-specialists are dearer than I would pay at the specialist I do use.
Thats often the case though - specialists can be more competitive on price due to experience and knowledge - they can do the job quicker (less hours on the invoice).Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
