from about 1min in, that is insane!how quick is that and is there a comparable on-board from 2012?
While only vaguely 'related' I trust it's reasonable to mention here that, today, at Wilton House, we took delivery of exhibit A):
This is Stefan Bellof's 956, THE car with the Nurburgring lap record of 6.11.13.
My dear fellow PH'ers, I am gobsmacked. It'll be on show on the 5th August.
Sorry for cutting in; please continue the thread! I for one was gutted to have to miss the FoS this year, and this would have been high up my list of 'things to have a good poke around.'
Mr Harris, I'm often called a jammy st and largely deservedly so, however I'm going to direct all future accusers to you

answering my own question - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5Xf39cjaL8how quick is that and is there a comparable on-board from 2012?
noise?
There's actually no point in doing a full-on 956/962 video because the existing (make that real) footage is so compelling. In car 956 is bonkers. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to drive one and attempt to explain what makes it special, but that run down the Mulsanne at light-bending velocity, complete with knob-twiddle after the kink, says more than I could in a three-hour documentary.
love these ... one of the most beautiful 4 wheeled creations ever
Mate of mine used to do all the carbon fibre/bodywork for Vern Schuppan and has a few funny stories. Apart from Vern taking him up the M1 one night in a race 962 (the bloke didn't give a crap) the tale that sticks out in my mind is how one day at le mans Vern qualified a Rothmans car and for the second car which had some sort of last minute issue, they just swapped the bodywork over so effectively qualified the same car twice !

It's articles like this that make me wish I'd pursued auto journalism a little more and computer programming a little less...
(Do you mind doing the next article about inching along the Hammersmith Flyover in a CityRover on a rainy Wednesday, complete with lots of detail about missed sleep, dragging wiper blades and an editor yelling at you on speakerphone over approaching deadlines? Please?)

Fantastic machine. A mate of mine owns and races a 962. The last one built by Joest. I've been promised a drive but that has not happened yet and probably never will. I know from when he raced at Spa, Eau Rouge is taken at 160 mph. Kemmel Straight was 180 in this higher down force car. His old 962 was into the 190's. The g force was so great that he had to slow down to change gear through some of the corners.
Well done Chris, driving a 962 is a major tick in the box

The Schuppan 962CR - achingly beautiful, and no doubt a truly terrifying drive.

I saw one of these Rothman Porkas go up the hill in 2009. The noise was just epic.

Dear God
Please may I return as Chris Harris when you've finished with me? Just so I can drive this car, you understand: I don't really want to be Chris Harris. Christ no.
