I think Setright would have liked the GT86.
I would hope so too.

Update: I saw an Orange GT86 this evening. It looks good in the metal and bigger than I expected. It really doesn't look that different a Hyundai Coupé, though!
I saw another yesterday in blue, close-up. I have to say that it did look very good. The proportions of height:wb:length appear 'right'.

I like the relatively sensibly-sized wheels rather than the enormous ones fitted to other cars of late.

This is an old thread but I thought I would contribute.

I had a go in a GT86 today and can say it looks much better in the steel then in the pictures. The build quality felt much higher then anticipated, although the central section of plastic which runs along the length of the dash looks rather dubious in finish. Its got this kind of faux carbon pattern and it doesn't really work.

Seating position is excellent. The pedals are nicely spaced, with a thoughtful foot rest, however the throttle and brake are quite spaced out so I found heel and toe a bit of streach. Nothing I couldn't get used to.

The first thing that stuck me about the car, was the sound. I understand they have a valve which allows extra decibels into the atmosphere. I can state; I am a fan. The car sound pretty good and the boxer character flows out when it gets going. I can imagine on a autumn morning on your favorite Sunday morning loop that its all the company you'lll need.

The next thing that struck me about the car was the steering action and feel. I found the car to have a good degree of steering feel and felt pretty pointy... meaning the turn in was predictable and intuitive. It went where I needed it go and no further steering corrections seemed required.

Chassis. I never thought I would say this, but this Toyota handles so well. It felt dynamic and pretty well balanced. In fact they have done a pretty bloomin steerling job. It felt better then my friends Z4 by quite some margin.

On the well discussed engine and power discussion. Yes the car is not endowed with masses of blunt power. However in isolation for what this car is the power isn't lacking. Zinging up to 7.5k on the tacho through the 6 speed didn't make me feel short or lacking in anything. This car belies its figures.

It was fun. The car seems reasonably priced.

Will I be buying one? No. But thats down to the fact I'd be buying another Porsche if I was up for the spend. However thats because I am boring and typecast.

Very good motorcar.
