Sure some of you guys will have watched these already, but a review and track times for the Camaro and Mustang:

Ford Shelby GT500 vs Chevrolet Camaro ZL1! - Head 2 Head

Really enjoyed the 2nd video, very competent review covering the important aspects.

Look were focus groups got GM in the past. hehe

Seriously though the Camaro probably cost GM sod all to develop given that it's essentially a re-bodied Holden Commodore/Pontiac G8/Vauxhall VXR8/Chevy Caprice and whatever else the same platform is used for. And it has to be said a bloody good platform it is too. GM ditching Pontiac, and specifically the G8 was madness as it's such a great car. Although I doubt they made any profit on it as there's no way the G8 made any money at the price point it was at in the US. Look how expensive they are in their native OZ for example.

Anyway, ZL1 for me. I'm not into drag racing and having sampled both (albeit lesser versions) the Camaro is a much more resolved package from my European tinted viewpoint. Some easy mods will see it pushing 700hp, but crucially it'll still be able to put it down once you've turned off the drag strip.
True! The Aztec surely is a thing of beauty, but no more spawned by consumer market research than the Camaro or Corvette, to be fair - ZL-1 has (heavier) quad tailpipes, for instance, because potential buyers want it to be easily distinguishable versus SS/RS from the rear.

I'm with you re the G8 - I got so close to buying a new one - in fact I was about to pull the trigger when GM announced they were killing the Pontiac brand, which put the mockers on it for me. I should have had the courage of my conviction and stretched to a GXP which are even now becoming sought after.

Given a choice of high $50k muscle, I'd be more inclined to go for a Hennessey Challenger...

Of course, you're only young once and a 30 year old doesn't look that much of a prat (compared to a 50 yr old) in a loud Camstang so one of those is my next next car biggrin
Thanks for that. 52, in case you're wondering. I'm not in the picture in case I offend you.

Not sure why the Challenger is so much more than the Camaro, it does sound the best of the 3 modern muscle cars though in standard guize.

I blame you for all this anyway. If I hadn't listened to your advice all those years ago, I'd never have bought the Roush, which led me on a quest for ever-increasing horsepower, culminating in this. 600 bhp, apparently.

sit inside and you'll see the extra money IMO - it really is a nicer place to be than the Camaro (never driven a new Mustang so I can't comment)

Dry weight. Fluids, when all present & correct, take it well over the 2 tonne barrier (remember it's got 20 radiators to keep it cool in traffic...).

Thanks, but it's a simple matter of wanting what you can't have, since I live in the US. Besides, fantasy cars never have any reliability problems. wink

eek

!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've owned 5 Griffith 500's. Probably more than most. The last back in 2007. Since then it's been American, with the odd smattering of Brit and German. Value and thrills/looks for money ? USA everytime.

Yup, I agree. The presenter Angus MacKenzie (who hails from Oz) is the ex-editor of the Motor Trend print magazine. I thought he was good in the role.

BTW, here's a link to a Motortrend review of the base V8 GT: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vI9drvzFMKs (which I also thought had good observations...)

They keep saying how much better the new Mustang interior is but I just don't see it. I far prefer the original 2005 dash.
They say it because it is in terms of comfort and refinement (I have had both). The aesthetics are a matter of personal taste as clearly shown in your picture.

Have to say on the whole I really like how many of the American mags review cars, Motor Trend and Car and Driver are good examples. Usually factual, impartial, informative with some subjective opinion. They also tend to test on various locations to get a feel for the cars and I love the track sessions where Randy (??) gives really in depth explanation of what is happening and what's good and what isn't.
