RE: C63 Black Series: The perfect road car?
Discussion
Yeah, I still haven't decided whether the way a road car looks is really that important or not.
The saving grace of ugly cars everywhere is that you can't look at them and drive them at the same time, and there's a certain appeal in having a rare and interesting car even if objectively it is undeniably ugly - the Lancia Flavia Zagato would be the prime example here.
However I also have this theory that the aesthetic merits of your environment contribute significantly to the general well-being of society, and that clogging up the roads with ugly cars is verging on the immoral.
And then there's personal taste. I think the Benz in this review's a bit juvenile-looking, and the deletion of the spoilers would only partly rectify that - but then it seems to push other people's buttons so I'm willing to accept that. People who buy Mondeos or Honda Accords meanwhile...unforgivable!
The concept of the perfect road car is a very interesting one though. Combination of performance, looks, comfort, value for money, reasonable running costs and reliability, practicality, street cred, and that x-factor that comes from pedalling a beautifully-designed piece of machinery, it's really not that easy to figure out. On that score this would have to come close, but my vote would probably go to the Maserati 3500GT or the current QP, Alvis TD21, Jag XJS, Lotus Carlton, Ferrari 550, or the Karmann Ghia, maybe? Opinions anyone?

Mine arrives end of September!! 66 RHD being made for the UK. Black (not matt) with the same wheels as Chris drove, but in silver. No 'aerodynamic pack', IE large rear wing and front bumper winglets, instead a small rear carbon fibre lip spoiler. The cars come standard with 4 seats, but as a NCO can be ordered with two racing seats. Mine is 4 seats... Have a C63 estate and it's a very different car, much like the SLS is a very different car to the standard C63. Hope it's not too wet in October...!!
Congats! Happy for you dude I hope you enjoy the car it looks stunning I can't wait to see one in flesh. anniesdad said:
The C63 Black is a superb looking car with/without the wings.
It takes you back to being a schoolboy and getting all excited about the latest supercar!
No it doesn't.It takes you back to being a schoolboy and getting all excited about the latest supercar!
It looks like the saloon cars with silly F1 spoilers and/or Group 5 wheel arches on I used to draw in German

Your spec sounds like mine, got it at the end of March. Obsidian Black, silver rims, 4 seats so no aero but got the track pack i.e. rear oil cooler and sticky rubber. Harris is right - its my favourite ever road car. Will be at the July SS in it.ZZZ
