RE: SOTW: Rover 420 GSi Turbo
Discussion
My old man had a new one of these on an L plate and it certainly wasn't turbocharged. I remember it being an OK drive but the suspension was a bit hard for the flat cap brigade. He chopped it in for a dark blue 620ti which which was way better and did have the 200bhp turbo motor. Good Q car by all accounts but depreciation was pretty grim !
I had a 214 SEi when I was 23. Much to my friends constant amusement.
It was a great car and I loved it until I slid in into a kerb and folded the left rear under the car. I pulled it (almost) straight but it never did go around right handers very well after that.
I did however, go around left handers like a NASCAR.

Same engine, different(ish) car - I loved my 220 Coupe. Hands down one of the best looking and most reliable cars I've ever owned.
Went like a train for the 5 years I owned it, and besides servicing, tyres and one exhaust over almost 80,000 miles, (to a total of 122,000 before selling) bizarrely required two clutch cables.
Still get a bit misty eyed when I see one.

OK it's a Rover...
I had a 416Gti in 1990 as a company car - Honda engine and gearbox. Lovely.
Only car I have ever run with no advisories at service time - and that was covering 46k miles in 10 months. So I have a soft spot for the 400 series.
If this had been the turbo, I'd have been tempted.

I'd guess that's not its first front-end shunt, as it's wearing the wrong grille. Although some misguided sods did glue them on, in the mistaken belief that they were improving the car's looks.
I've always liked R8 series Rovers, having owned a couple of sheddy ones and spent a fair bit of time driving my mate's absolutely mint Turbo - probably one of the best original examples left. However, this isn't even the best shed in Leicestershire!
