The first car I bought was a dark grey 220 GSI 16v, the 3 door hatch version of this. I loved that car, didn't handle too well as standard but it felt very quick back then, 7.9s 0-60 was the manufacturer time I think. I put 17" wheels and lowering springs on it as you do, drove like a bed of nails after that but did corner better.

Can't say I'm really feeling this 420 though, the pale blue is a bit pensioner spec.

I'm so dismayed at the level of failure in this weeks SOTW that i think it should be torn off the site and a new SOTW added.

It CLEARLY isnt a 420 GSI turbo so the whole article is utter bks.

Pile of ste.

Had the misfortune of driving a number of 416/420 models as pool cars many moons ago and they were universally dreadful.

A poor SOTW even if it was a turbo and had no damage.

Must try harder.

I got a bit excited when I saw SOTW come up on my Twitter because 420GSi Turbos are stupidly rare - I only ever came across one in 4 years of selling Rover between 1996-2000.
I got so excited I decided not to actually read the original ad properly...

If it was a turbo then it may have made for an interesting performance per pound or sleeper discussion but it's not .... it really is just a shed.

Can we have a new SOTW please?

I'd guess that's not its first front-end shunt, as it's wearing the wrong grille. Although some misguided sods did glue them on, in the mistaken belief that they were improving the car's looks.
I think it is wearing the correct grille - the facelift came along in 1993 for the K. But seeing considering my record thus far with this shed, perhaps I should just shut up yikes

Ha! Nope, I was sober as a judge last night and have had this lined up since Monday. Not sure whether that's better or worse than what you suggest...

I ran a 420gsi as a company car back in the 90's... it would have qualified as a shed when it 1st came off the production line.

i like it! low mileage too! it's kinda cool in a "i'm a grandad now but i still like my cars" way. And anyway, how hard can it be to bolt a turbo onto those rover engines?? plenty of dosh left over from that!

I'd be willing to wager that even if this was the turbo version half of those ponies had long since left the ranch.

Okay folks. I've had a trawl through my usual haunts and can find neither a 400 Turbo nor 200 Turbo.

But I have found this 44K-mile Rover 200 BRM. Does that atone for my sins at all??

(Crosses fingers, hopes).

The turbo lumps are popular conversions in 200/25/zr so the engine, gearbox and loom would be worth more than shed money just breaking it.

Makes me miss my 414sli, always used to show a clean pair of heels to my mates escort ghia lol.

Odd SOTW, has to be said.
Not even st of the week. A load of bks and worth about 300 quid tops.

A 620Ti on the other hand would be a worthy inclusion.
