In the spec that I've chosen, they work out a roughly the same price. The performance can't be ignored, although i think the "28" engine in the 328 will suit me fine in reality, the lure of more power is difficult to ignore.
However, whilst I love the look of the new 3 series in M-Sport guise, I'm not sure I could put up with the looks of this day-to-day.
Decisions, decisions..... As much as I love this car I'd go for the 328i sport... See pics in this link (330d though) http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=704...

http://www.bmwblog.com/2012/05/13/bmw-m135i-interv...Looks like this version and the new sub M class are more than just a bodykit and stiffer springs, up to 30% new /specific parts for this version ( M cars are up to 80%) Im looking at my next hot hatch now and this has become top of the list. Agreed its not a true M car but then I don't believe its trying to be ,there is a massive gap between the M cars in price and perfromance and the rest of the normal range. For people like me this car is just want I want ,something thats quick , good on fuel and I can use it all day everyday and isn't subject to the servicing schedule of an M car , especially if you doing 15 - 20k + miles a year. Of course if you can afford it then you go for an M3 / M5 no question. And if you don't need back seats or much of a boot then yep £30 is Porsche money ...just depends on what you want / need Coming from Renaultsport cars for the last 4 years Id rather have something that isn't going to loose value like you wouldn't believe and screwed together , considering that this is in the same price range and the Megane 265!!! insane

Not exactly unique to the 1er, but I wonder why so much "styling" is happening on cars today. Is it because they can, since most of the front is plastics these days? Or really a change in the buying public's taste? Lot's of stuff out there that suggests some function (fake air intakes, overstyled headlamps...) that isn't actually there or required.

Not keen on the front headlamps, spoils the overall look of the car. They should have made the bottom of the lens mor flat. I mistook a standard new 1 series for a Polo from the rear, the rear lamps look a bit too VW.

For those saying, "ugly", "fugly", "spugly" etc... I think I'd personally rather ugly than unbelievably dull, such as the Golf, or A1 / A3 from VAG - all of VAG 's offerings are just dull in everyway!
Mercs are much prettier, but really don't have anything to compete in this segment i think...

I fancy a 130i first, 30k for this though looks excellent value.

If it looked like an alfa, had an interior like an Audi and had a proper key (so it wouldn't get nicked) then I would have put a deposit down on one today...on paper it looks a cracking package and reviews to date say it's a great drive too - and only £30k. Maybe looks will grow on me - the previous shape didn't though :-(

And when Merc does come out with something in the same performance ball park, it's going to cost quite a bit more. The RS3 does look silly right now. Also I hear BMW will be introducing all-wheel-drive to the 1 series line-up. But I think it will only be available on lower powered models. Don't think they'd risk diluting the potency of their 'light' and 'full fat' M branded cars.

Just priced up mine - £36,970 (mineral grey, coral red leather, and every single toy except sat-nav). Bargain, I reckon.
Has anyone heard whether there will be M-Performance upgrades available in the future (carbon splitters/skirts/wing-mirrors etc.)?

I don't know, if I didn't need the space or the long distance comfort a larger car offers, I'd go with the M135i. It just seems that little bit special. Having said that, the 3 series M-Sport cars aren't too shabby in the looks department. That blue is really nice. Less chavvy, dare I say, than Estoril blue. Santorini blue is also a guilty pleasure of mine.

I remember people being gobsmacked when German hot hatches went over 30k, now they're touted as value for money.
Wonder what the margin on this is versus the 17k base model?

I would love one of these, realistically I'm a good way from affording one though...
Out of interest, anyone know the 0-100mph? I would guess around 12 sec?
