I also have a Fisher Fury R1. Mine was built down to 422Kg fuelled at SVA (came in at 427Kg at last corner-weighting - added Petty Strut, extinguisher etc)

Now I don't particulary care about practicality, even over Winter use, but happen to have addressed the OP's target another way: I've lost over 24KG since this thread started, in fact lost it and held it off for a year for no extra effort. So should be within a bag of sugar of the car weighing 500KG fuelled and with me in it - take that, Caterham fans wink

Impressive, but my old R500 with me driving would still be quicker than your Fury would it not?

Well, give the OP a few years.

Graphene nano-ribbons are looking promising.

Weight is about 100 times lighter than polystyrene, so... it should be doable.

Problem is, four schoolgirls might walk away with your car.

1. All the instrumentation and switch gear will be bespoke and extremely light weight.

All the dash switches are low current (weigh 4g each) and work really well in my Fury too.
Changed your mind on the "bespoke" bit?

If the chassis was made of ti and the body of cf this would be finished on target already. Good luck on your quest OP smile

Why does the kit car industry not use polycarbonate panels just like an RC cars? its tough, lightweight & quite simple to vacuum form. So much better than fibreglass etc. With good design it would be plenty stiff enough.

I have to say I love the Fury a very pretty car indeed, I'd like one without a bike engine, something like that Suzuki Turbocharged lump in the new Caterham.

Surely a supercharged bike engine is the way to go? Super light and charger to fill in the torque gap.

I appreciate it's a good deal over this target weight, but I was really impressed with the Ermini cars on display at Geneva. For production cars low weight, great performance figures (quoted at least) and the classic shaped one was a thing of beauty.

Apologies for st, drunk iphone pic

How does it perform in the event of an accident. Rather like a plate glass window, I suspect.

RC cars with polycarbonate bodies crash repeatedly with no damage, which was the inspiration for the Expose, if I remember correctly.

For comparison, the R1-powered MEV Atomic weighs a claimed 334kg

Minimal bodywork, small plastic flyscreen, no roof, one seat and half a floor.

It's an impressive ambition, but adding practicality is going to add weight. What materials are you planning to use to keep the weight down?
You just couln't drive that without getting a stormtrooper outfit to wear.

I've considered the MEV atomic for ages, just not sure how much fun it would be if you can't take along a passenger.

Aware of the MEVabusa. Just too expensive compared to this which you could do pretty darn cheaply.

I've never had a passenger that added anything to the driving experience.

I meant more for their enjoyment or for driver training. For something this extreme I find it a bit of a draw back.

Anyways, 400kg sports car sounds good. a 500kg sports car with a big engine sounds even better.

I'm up for one of these... Possibly my favourite 'realistic' priced kit!

What a laugh for early on a Sunday morning when the Mrs is asleep!

It may have to be done when I get some garage space!

Anyone know if they come up for sale very often? Not sure I've seen a second hand one?!

Only ever seen 2 for sale. The ex demo car, lime green and Jon's orange one from the super far North, up past Aberdeen IIRC.

You really need to build one. There's naff all to them so is an easy build.
