I don't understand the Gordini bashing either - the fact is the standard car is a million times better and more capable than Gordinis in the past which were good versions of really rather dire cars. We should thank Renault that it didn't think the car needed upgrading because it's a damned good package as is.
U are missing the point, same as Renault does. Motorsport and performance tuning name is used here as an indication of cabin equipment, that's pretty bold. It should be named Luxury or something like that. I am certain that it helped him to sell few more of Clios and Twingos, but you only ruin your name once.Zajda said:

You mean like the butchering of the BMW M badge or the misapplication of the MINI name to a large car or the use of Lotus on a Proton. Renault tried the "luxury badge" to rival Ford's Ghia back in the 80's with "Monaco" when Ghias were very popular. Truth be known, nobody these days really gives a hoot about Gordini, it's a means to shift cars. Not even the monstrous catastrophe of applying the Chevrolet badge to Daewoos has really affected the historic perception of the marque vis a vis muscle cars and the Americans have perpetrated some shockers - Pontiac Le Mans on an Astra, Shelby on a Dodge Horizon etc. ultimately the historic value of the name will be unaffected because it will always have a historical perspective.
The point is that it is hardly debased by being on a car as good as a Clio 200. It might be worth whining if they stuck it on a Twinny.
