RE: Driven: Volkswagen Polo Blue GT
Discussion
Like the idea of this. But what happened to it in the last photo?! Looks like a prang to the drivers side front wing/headlight... PH's doing?
Sorry, I'm an idiot - ignore this, as it clearly is just the reflection of another car! Pre-caffeine brain not working.

Sorry, but a Polo. Small hatch, yes? 1250kg????? What's it made of, lead? Not so long ago a Polo weighed around 900kg.
Very strange.....
How about weight de-activation?
It has an option for that. There is a small button which pops the back seats down. Obviously, you have to make sure nobody is sat in the back before you press it.Very strange.....

It's really only a warm hatch and it may be economic, but when it costs that much what's the point?
I've mixed feeling about the price, not to mention adding in a few options, it would seem on the face of it expensive. But since it's around the size of a MkII Golf, got more power than the 16V GTi and far better on fuel, maybe the price stacks up - small premium priced cars are selling. Still, I'd imagine one wouldn't have to look too hard to find a similar size hatch with similar mpg, with less power but without the engine complexity for a lot less. MiseryStreak said:
Great. But why does an eco oriented 1.4 engined Polo weigh over 1,200kg?
Because VW's customers want half a tone of sound deadening and caressable dashboard plastics; eleventy air-bags; and a nine star N-cap rating. If you want a light car in this sector, buy a Fiesta.
Interesting how manufacturers are doing all sorts of clever stuff to get petrol engines up to similar levels of efficiency as diesels. Got to wonder if they're just keeping a good balance between fuels- if the same technology is applied to diesels it'll just take it up a step in the other direction. That said, perhaps cylinder deactivation on a diesle would be too lumpy...

60mpg, I don't believe it and since when the dsg gives more mpg than a manual ?
They usually do because the test is skewed in their favour. I see no reason to believe that this will be any further off its official figure than any other modern, turbocharged, car - should probably be viable to average high 40s in mixed driving and 60 on the motorway.
