Love the look of this but think I'll be heading straight for a used GTI for less money, fuel not really an issue as don't do as much driving these days anyway smile

Just brilliant. More than 70mpg highway (albeit as a lab experiment) in an enjoyable car? I just love it. Of course here in California, where they give you 24-hour access to the HOV (high occupancy vehicle - I.e. either two or three people on board) lane for certain zero or near zero emission cars with one person on-board, this car, despite it's great efficiency can't qualify. Thus I just purchased a Chevrolet Volt. I sure would prefer a VW such as this, but no HOV, no purchase. Still, great for the pocket and the planet.

Just a shame it doesn't seem to be coming to the UK frown

Has been available to order in the continent for the past few months but no word as to if/ when it will come over here.

Golf MK7 or new Leon with this engine are the next best.

The UK motoring press all seem to have driven it, so why would they fly those journalists over if they're not even going to launch in the UK?

Drivethedeal are listing it now, although still absent from the UK VW site.

Excellent news! I was just going by the fact VW UK aren't listing it, but the fact its on Drivethedeal is very promising smile

Sheer brilliance!

I gave it a 9 for the technology rather than the car, as I have heard lots about how boring this thing is to drive. It's expensive so it is ironically still more economical for me to buy and run an old gas guzzler, but I totally understand the price premium for state of the art technology. However, if they introduced a Scirocco Blue GT then I will certainly be interested in purchasing one second hand a few years down the line!

It is likely this engine will make an appearance in the next generation Scirocco due out within the next year, probably as the entry level model.

A1 prices are imminently due for it with the same engine, might be better value than the Polo.

Is that just a poke in the clouds or have you actually read that somewhere? I can't seem to find anything on any Scirocco Blue GT.

You can choose not to believe it if you want, but its safe to say the next generation MQB chassis Scirocco will feature the same engine as per the new Golf, Octavia, Leon and A3. Its unlikely to be branded BlueGT though - that nameplate is reserved for the Polo.

With regards to the A1, its been confirmed its getting the engine and a lot of the press have driven them.

Why is it reserved for the Polo? Not the Bluemotion, nor the GT namebadges have been reserved for a single model so I don't see why the Blue GT should be. It's quite a catchy nametag so would be a shame not to see it on other models too.

Anyone driven one of these yet? My mum has 17k to spend and looking at a new A1 but I think this is a much better bet for the money (bigger, quicker, more economical)

The A1 with the same engine (1.4 TFSI COD in Audi speak) is actually the better of the two. Both cars are a similar size offering identical performance and fuel economy figures. Cost a similar amount but the Audi is better equipped, nicer to live with and holds it value better.

I'll have to get back on the Audi website and check it out. Either car or either way, this technology is the future for petrol engines smile

Its a great engine and really nice to drive. Best place for the official info on the Audi is from the press release - http://www.audi.co.uk/about-audi/latest-news/new-s...

The Manual A1 1.4 TFSI COD is not currently in the brochure/ configurator but there are a handful of them in the UK. Probably looking at late 2013/ early 2014 for a factory car but you might find one in stock somewhere. This thread on the A1 forum is worth a look - http://www.a1-forum.co.uk/a1forum/viewtopic.php?f=...

For the Polo BlueGT lots of info from the people who have them here - http://www.tigerstyle.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f... (skip to towards the end if you don't want to read all 18 pages)

I've had my VW Polo Blue GT for 6 weeks now and I love it. I ordered a white one with anthracite alloys - great colour combination. It's really nippy, handles fabulously and looks great (the Bi-Xenon/LED option is expensive, but well worth it). I'm getting 50mpg average - best I've managed was 54mpg at 60mph on the way back from Le Mans.

No complaints so far.

I notice that Seat are now offering an Ibiza with the same engine. FR spec with 5 doors is around £15.5k list but Drive the Deal are offering them for around £12,250 which is an absolute bargain in my book.

138bhp petrol engine
184 lb.ft
60mpg claimed. Even if it gets around 50mpg on average in the real world that's still great

Yep agreed the Ibiza ACT is great value for money. Just a shame it's interior quality is a bit dissaponting compared to the Polo

This tech is nothing new and will not be used by most drivers, its just a nice way to 'optimise' CO2 over the NEDC.

Mitsubishi were messing with this in the early 90's IIRC.

Absolute corker of a car for the prices they're available at now

I have a real hankering for one, apparently the engine maps to 180hp/300lbft...

I have no connection or vested interest with the seller of the above example
