How much are scrap cars going for these days?

Really poor for me. Cartakeback offers me £70 on a biggish estate car. Ringing around the local places gives £150-£200 (even those who are listed on Cartakeback as a lower amount??).What's wrong with it? If you're scrapping it for convenience when you emigrate rather than selling it, and there's nothing actually wrong with it, I'm sure someone on here will pay scrap value for it if it's not actually a scrap car. Hell, I probably will. Tell me when you want it gone and what's wrong with it and I'll probably give you a couple of hundred notes for it on a day that suits you.

THIS ^^^^^ X1000 would hate to see a useful car bailed.Scrap metal prices vary from month to month. Depends on weight too. I got £60 for a stripped out Rover 600 couple years ago ~ No engine, gear box, interior, front suspension assemblies. Most useful parts removed. Mainly just a shell :~
Last year, got £178 for another 600 Rover ti less TorSen gearbox, and other useful parts including all four alloy wheels with decent tyres and much other stuff. Car had two nearly new rear brake calipers on it which I forgot to remove... :~
Both cars had been in the family for some years with recently expired MoT. Both had served their purpose well. Even with tax and MoT few folks prepared to pay a reasonable price for them. So, bear in mind some cars like these and maybe the OP's one are worth far more stripped of useful parts and remains weighed in for scrap value.
If you have space and time and the car has useful spares, consider this financially advantageous means of disposal.
Ten years ago, old cars were often just left by the roadside when owners no longer had a use for them. You never see that now because of the huge increase in scrap metal value. Cars like this one were a frequent sight locally :~
No value then. Probably £200 quids worth now.
Someone I know recently had an old non-runner he kept as a pool of spares 'disappear' one night. Property forced entry. I have had two engines and three gearboxes 'removed' from my premises. Metal theft is now rife in the former green and pleasant.

Grrrr scrapping cars annoys me so much Today picked up a R reg vitara for £50 the guy was going to weight it in Far to good for that. plus stick it on ebay be good for a drift car or the banger boys are now starting to kill lexus's aswell!!
Can I suggest you never visit a local scrap yard near me. What you see will really make you feel sick! Some of the cars folks throw away in recent years is so very wasteful it's almost criminal. Long MoT in glove pocket with other documents and even a month or two tax disc still on their screens sometimes. ..
Thanks for the replies.
The car is as follows:
1994 L Reg
Lexus GS300
3.0 Straight six
MOT until October
Rocker cover gaskets replaced recently to resolve oil leak.
Lexus history until a couple of years ago when the previous owner had it SORN.
4 nearly new tyres (Yokohama, I think)
Cambelt changed at 165000 miles
current mileage 186000 ish
I think it needs the front nearside suspension bushes looking at. During our recent holiday in Cornwall I noticed a slight knock on slow, tight, bumpy corners.
The bodywork is a bit shabby with a few paint scratches and cracks in the lacquer where the bumpers have had parking bumps.
I'm the second owner - Original purchase invoice included (£35000 cash)
Electric aerial mast has been replaced with a manual pull-up one.
CD changer is sometimes unable to read CD 3 and 5 (its a 12 disc changer)
The speedo needles flicker slightly which is a known issue with these cars.
Tax expires end of July, I will need the car until August 24th so it will have 5 months tax remaining.
Possibly the factory fit stereo I've ever heard, including original sub-woofer in rear parcel shelf.
