My Merc beard is almost non existant but I think that ones about as good as they come. The rough rule in my mind is 96-06 MB proceed with caution.

Trommel said: Really? I know bugger all about Mercedes, was looking at a BMW on a website and they had a W124 Mercedes that i thought looked quite interesting. I have never been interested in Mercedes so how would I know which ones are the good ones or not?

One of the very very few cars I regret selling is a Merc 300e W124. Bought for £850, sold for £950. Without doubt, one of the best cars I have ever owned.

richtea78 said: If you want to be really fussy, the facelift W124 isn't quite the specimen that the original was. The rot had just begun to set in at MB when they did the facelift. It's probably not massively material, but I reckon the pre facelift is that little bit more worthy. Guber's old saloon looks like a peach.

There is another one on there for even more money as well in a nicer colour and ex - MB World Display Car.
It will be months before I eventually decide what car to buy anyway, I have no idea how someone can make up their mind so quickly!

W00DY said: It's a shame it's been "slammed", but otherwise lovely. Of course, all the wise money is going into lower mileage, leather clad, auto-boxed versions, ideally with the 2.0 lump...

A real Merc beard will say that anything post W123 brings shame on MB; sensible Merc people just accept that body work on all Mercedes is a consumable, to be refreshed every 10-15 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes sooner....
