It would be a shame to see it deteriorate in any way really.

Saying that, I had my first ever couple of driving lessons in one (that was a 1985 model, but was the 1.2), and I didn't like the way it drove.

I swapped to another instructor who had a 1982 Metro 1.3HL, which was so much nicer to drive (!)

Me mates boy has a 4Dr saloon, 1.4 EFi under the bonnet with a 5 speed and later/better brakes, makes a real nice daily, standard cars tend to allways suck and revisiting them in later life is allways a dissapointment.

I learnt to drive in exactly that same car apart from my mum's was a 5dr. Exact colour, age, even beige/brown interior.

Even though it's in near mint condition, it still seems like strong money. A little digging and you'll no doubt find a standard 1.3 or 1.4 SR for similar folding.
Not in that sort of condition you wont smile

My first car was a Nova.

Cool trick someone showed me, if you yank out the Hazard light switch, turned it 180° and pushed it back in... Voila, ignition.

Here's a predicament.

Would you rather see an old car scrapped, or modified and kept on the road?
Why would it need to be scrapped?
After 5minutes of thinking, there is no answer that won't be easily undermined hehe

"Near mint condition"? You serious? What is "near mint condition" about the rear arches being rust (clearly visible in the pics) and not metal?

Even if it was genuinely mint with no rust it's still not worth more than a couple of hundred quid at best, regardless of the mileage. It's still a poverty spec 1.2 Nova after all, and having owned plenty of them in my youth I can tell you that the 1.2s are about as dull to drive as they look.

I think you could be right. The bonnet and OS front wing appear to be a darker shade of red than the rest of the car. Also, if you look at the 2 pics under the one of the speedo, there appears to be quite a step up from the bonnet onto the NS front wing. NS front indicator looks a bit skoowif too! scratchchin

Although I love old heaps, I don't love this one, and would be amazed if it really could fetch anything like £1,000.

Not for a K, I reckon, but bung the guy a few hundred quid if the urge of the sheddette is strong upon you.

I often come close to buying all sorts of auto tat. Worse, some of it I even buy.

I can't picture Mr Garlick in a Nova.
(all photoshop people this is not a suggestion, please respect his position as PH manager)

Ahh good memories there! I learnt to drive in one of these, was my 2 older brothers shared car. 4 gears and a choke, even was that same red colour. After being left languishing on our driveway for a about a year one of the guys who worked on the farm next door asked if he could have it, so that he could use it for Banger and Caravan Racing!

ETA: No really, just found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_axIytjoJU

Can't see a Nova in this clip but the car was taken from us in the vincinity of Ipswich...

Rust is lighter than carbon fibre and it has a push button start. Buy it immediately.

As others have said was never the greatest of cars but in comparison with some of the bloated monstrosities that claim to be superminis these days it does have a certain...I was going to say charm but thats probably not the right word ! Will settle for "appeal" instead.
