Seen this many many times. Always worth another viewing. Awesome stuff, just awesome. Cheers Plotters!

That was superb. That's what driving fun is.

It did sound like the Porsche driver kept leaving the car in too high a gear, and so may have been able to improve his position. Nevertheless, both very good drivers.

Mesmerising stuff on board the Caterham, especially watching the front suspension working hard. It gives a very real idea of the bumps and compressions on the 'ring.

That moment at 2:15? This was the face inside the helmet

I couldn't tell - I had both videos running at the same time about 26 seconds apart smile

As already said, it's impressive stuff with both pushing hard, but both ease off at times as they give each other (and those slower cars being overtaken later on) room to get past safely

I'll have to make do with 70mph on the M4 tomorrow again . . . . not that I'd have a quarter of the talent shown in the video anyway

Love it, never realised the 7 type cars were so quick in the corners.

One of my very favourite YouTube videos. Would dearly love to take my Tracksport round when I'm there next month, but it's no longer road legal frown

Re: oversteer.....they are quite twitchy yes, but easier than anything else I know to catch. The lack of mass means even a 500 is incredibly friendly. Compared to any big 500bhp + super saloon, they're quite benign. It always feels like you're choosing to drift rather than the car, and when they go, they're reasonably easy to catch....saying that though, getting a massive tankslapper at the crest of Swedenkreuz can't be 'easy' in anything!

Indeed. I've more respect for the fella in the GT2 - a lairy turbocharged 483bhp, arse-engined weight bias, and it's as wide as a house compared to the R500 bow

How do you think an Ariel Atom 300 would have faired if thrown in the mix with those two cars with an equally skilled driver at the wheel?

I've only driven an Atom once very breifly, but from what others who have more experience with them have said is that they're not as good in the corners as a Caterham. I expect with the power/aero advantage, it'd sit somewhere between the 7 and GT2.

Fantastic video. Along with Faszination, definitely one of the best Ring vids I've seen.......and, believe me, I've pretty much watched them all. This one, however, still leaves me in awe:

I've lost count of how many times I've watched that vid of the past few years.

This one with Dario in the R500 on a wet 'Ring (ooohhh eeeerrr missus) is quite enjoyable too - excluding the engagement of reverse gear at one point. Though rather more relaxed the margin between hero and zero is remarkably small:

Stunning driving although I too wonder if the Porsche was being pedalled at any more than 8/10's at times.
I envy their ability, as I consider myself no mean driver but I know I wouldn't be able to get near those times (something about nearly being 1/2 a Centuary old seems to increase my desire for self-preservation...???).
Magnificent video, I'd happily way h this repeatedly alongside my (signed) copy of Fazination, the Stefan Roser DVD.

Mesmorising stuff. Great video with two genuine enthusiastic and talented drivers. Nice little acknowledgement from the 996 driver at the end.
